Home Made Christmas gift made out of a car part?

The wife wants to do home-made gifts this year. Was brainstorming with some co-workers today and they suggested making something out of a car/truck part, like maybe a flower planter out of a valve cover or something. I was looking online and also saw home-made candles out of tea cups, so I thought I would combine the two. I may try to make a candle out of an old metal center cap or maybe stick with the planter idea, or..?

Anyone ever done anything like this or have any ideas?
 
Make a lamp out of a camshaft with a rotor as the base plate. Make a table using rods and pistons as legs. Use headlight buckets for light covers. Turn a bench seat in to a loveseat. You could use a cam and pushrods to make an 'animal'...primarily a dachsund. Those are some homemade gifts I've seen using autoparts.
 
Make a rocking chair style couch out of leaf springs and a bench seat... not totally sure how I would do it, but it sounds cool.

That sounds awesome....spare bench seat with flip down console...check. Spare springs from a dentside...check. This sounds like a wonderful project.
 
x2 on the bench seat rocker. Going to get that crap going so anyone that who wants to hang out in my shop can go sit down and stop asking how its going to work!

I think it should have a set of shocks on it too so it doesn't ride too rough:driver:
 
Make her a photo album of yalls pictures together. I dont really see her asking how much lift/duration her new cam lamp has.

I'm planning on making a table (for camping though) out of a 41" irok tire.

At one time I had planned on making a neat statue out of ring/pinions/spider gears. Never got around to it though.
