Im getting ready to start getting ready to start thinking about making rock slider (its kinda down the road a ways). And I need some general information. They will be going on my YJ and I have some tubing at the house. I belive its like 2-1/4 D and 1/8 maybe larger wall thickness (I get it cheap!:bling: ) can/could I use this or is it over kill.
Pics would be great!

underkill I used 3/16 and thought about 1/4 wall tubing. I used 2x2 square along the bottom of the rocker and then 1" tubing out as a kicker.

i'm going to start making rock sliders for yj's and tj's soon. if you want a set made just let me know.

.120 is fine for sliders for something moderately light like a YJ. 1/4" wall on a Tacoma? How thick do you think your FRAME is?

As long as your body mounts are solid, Braxton's idea for the angle is a fine one.

Mine are going to be 4X4 .250 wall, sunk into the rockers. But, I'm hard of stuff and being my frame is 23" off the ground with a 110 wb I drag the middle a lot. Plan is now to do a 1" body lift, raise the tank and tie the tub to the sliders solid then plate between the sliders and frame to smooth things up a bit under there. Then it should be a challenge to bend 'em.

My old rig (another Toy) had 2X3 .250. I bent both of them a bit falling off the ledge on Peckerwood and beating my way back up later that day.

Tod has bent .250 plate on his tj rockers, looks cool and oughtta hold up well. No clearance loss either.

when going with the angle how do you secure it to the frame? do you do with flat bar to the body mounts or do you tie it into the frame some how (welding or bolting) Do you counter sink the holes for the screws on the body?

yeah I'm a little curious about this angle irion idea also - anybody have a pic?

you mean a pic of rock sliders made from angle iron like you see every day?

yea that and how it connects to the frame or body mounts or does whatever.

they're done all kinds of ways...with pros/cons of each one...

mine are just bolted to the body...some do that but use a brace inside...

some bolt to the body as well as the body mounts...

some attach (weld or bolt) to the frame...

regardless of how they attach...some go flare to flare, some go wheel well to wheel well...
