have a 454 chevy 1998 sub. I put a thermostat in it .A 195 degree and flushed the cooling system. It runs 210 all the time and at a red light it ran about 225:confused:-240 ?I see water moving in the radiator, how could I tell if it is the fan clutch bad or radiator blocked??Or something else?

#1. Make sure your gauge is reading accurate. this can be verified by a thermometer in the radiator cap while idling. Cold be a bad gauge or sending unit.

#2 If the problem started immediately after a coolant flush, Id strongly suspect an air lock

what is an air lock? it ran 210 when I drove it home after buying it ,and after I changed the coolant it wants to go to 225.If the sides of the radiator are hot and the core itself you put your hand on it is barely warm ,would that be radiator blockage?the guy said he just put a new radiator on it.It looks almost brand new...The fan does not sound as loud as my f150 ,like it is not engageing all the way or it may be a quiter fan..Im scratching my head... I will try the thermometer now..Thanks!!!!

Check your hoses if the top is hot and bottom is cool could be radiator blockage or the thermostat you put in is bad. How many miles are on it could be the fins on the water pump have broken off or the clutch is bad on your fan. Good luck

After having a 454 Suburban we had a heating problem as well, the problem was the tran was on the way out.But the fluid looked good and smelt good as well.Just a thought.
