How do you like this spare mount?

I normally carry my spare on a swingout. Since my kids don't wheel with me much I thought I'd see if I could get it mounted inside. I used the interior spare mounting hardware from a Bronco II and a Jeep ZJ and 3 links of 3/16 chain. I used the rear seat belt mounting bolt to tie it down. I think it will do a good job of keeping the 86lb spare in it's place.
There are a few draw backs. The rear seat has to be removed completely. Anything bigger than a 33 will be a tight fit unless the seatbelt mounting hardware is removed. Then I don't think anything bigger than a 35 will fit.
Now I have to decide if this is going to be my primary method. If so I can probably sell the bumper and swing out to pay for more mods.

You'll want tiedowns points (boat cleats?) for cooler, etc. Had a friend run URE a while back with nothing tied down and sitting on a spare. We are still laughing at him about it. He just had no way to get a good tiedown and the tire let stuff bounce every damned where...

Hey, on my CJ I used to have, I used angle iron to mount my rear seat. the angle ran from the top of wheel well to wheel well. so the seat was raised up that high. not high enough to be too high and people who were in the back didn't hit their heads on the top either. may be a good option if your kids decide they want to go with you. Also, I put quick connects on the angle so I could remove it easily and quickly. the front also has a hinge on it so I could access under the seat without having to remove the entire seat.

You could use the same method for mounting a cargo basket for things like a cooler, tent, sleeping bag, tools, etc.

Just an idea
