yeah, yeah I know this sounds like a bad thing to list on the anniversary of hurricane Katrina, but I am interested in learning about the 100,000 cars that were damaged from the flood.

There have got to be some that can be cleaned out and driven till the wheels fall off. I really wouldn't care that the paint is damaged and so on. I just thought that this was an interesting topic. Come on guys think of the parts that are wasted. All of the rear ends, tires, wheels, heads blocks and so on.

Have you ever delt with a flood damage car? I saw a couple a few years back when the Mississippi was flooding and they were almost useless. A buddy bought a nice looking VW Corrado. It had the superchargerd 1.8. But everything was full of silt. Inside the doors, dash, engine, trans, and even it the headliner. He ended up using it for parts instead of cleaning it up. All the wiring and electrical parts were junked and corroded. Just be cautious and don't spend a lot of cash on anything with a flood history.

A year after the fact there is not going to be any good motors, heads, trannys,or axles. When these are recovered whatever water is in them remains in them. They do not drain the cars.
I have a good freind that works at a salvage yard and they bought a new Cad CTS from Missippi, and the headlight's,taillight's and engine still had water in them. When they went to pick it up they were not even allowed to get out of there rollback.Unless they have changed the rules or you have or have access to a dealer liscense, you can forget about getting them from FEMA.I am sure there is a dealer somewhere that is buying them to resell, but I would think that by now all they would be able to salvage is body parts.

Per FEMA.. all Katrina cars are to crushed and never seen again.. so I think you may be out of luck.. you wil just ned to wait till next storm here in NC and then try auctions

Flood prone towns like Kinston have a ton of flooded cars sitting in backyards and such that I'm sure people would love to get rid of. I pass by a white '76 Corvette every day in Kinston that's been flooded and just sitting there. Almost makes me wanna cry.....

we had a similar instance here at BellSouth when the floods hit the mountains a couple years ago...

some vehicles were considered "totaled", while some were salvaged by paying THOUSANDS of dollars per vehicle to some company to come sanitize them...

Yeah saturday or sunday, you might be in luck...........:flipoff2:

The cars that were directly in flood waters of downtown of Neworleans were crushed because of Biohazzard. Well most were... Still a lot of cars out side that zone were ok (cleaner waters) some were shiped all over the southeast. I wished I knew about the auctions for ya. I'v been (mydrivers) have been hauling boats outa there as fast as we can for nearly 10 months now. If you ever want a storm boat they go CHEAP, easy way too make a few$ I'v bought couple for my self (not much wheeling this summer) too fix and resale..http://usauctions.com/Default.aspx
