Ok now that I have your attention how hard is tellico, will I be able to go anywhere with this setup? Thanks I really want to go bad to that trip 22nd thru the 25 thanks guys for the help. Here is a pic of Missy, or my Jeep as others call her. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/EaglesSJ/PICT0007.jpg

my current upgrades are listed below:
2005 WRANGLER X 4.0 SIX SPEED, 3" BDS SUSPENSION LIFT, 1" ALUMINUM BL, K&N AIR, 10K lb. RATED TOW HOOKS F&R, THROTTLE BODY SPACER, M/T 32x11.50's, HI-LIFT, HERCULINER COATED TUB, COBRA CB W/5 FT. ANTENNA, BDS DISCOS, HELLA 500's ON WINDSHIELD MOUNTS, HOME FABRICATED STINGER BAR FRONT END

I'll have to respectfully disagree with the previous posts. I wouldn't recommend running the harder stuff, but my first trip to Tellico we ran the easier trails (4, 5 and 6 if I remember correctly) and had a good time.

Tellico is also cool because you can park and walk in to some of the tougher trails and watch the big boys play. To me the biggest consideration would be if there would be anyone willing to run the easier trails with you. If not, I wouldn't want to run them alone, but if you've got someone who will run those trails with you, go and have a good time.

Check out the photo page on my site (in my sig), you'll see some pictures of the easier trails there.

Tellico

I agree with "Nutt", aint got time to type the whole name.

Do you have a tow strap? If not, get one before you go...and yes you can do the EASIER rated trails at Tellico IF you are with a group of folks, who don't mind strapping your rig some.

We had two unlocked rigs follow us thru the trail that crosses FAINS FORD, and I think we strapped them once or twice. Trail leader will prob need a winch just in case) After Fains Ford, there is a large parking area, and in theory you could hike from there over to slickrock to watch. BUT, I wouldn't suggest taking your rig up that trail since it is ALWAYS crowded and you will be in the way.

I assume you have some trail riding time already down at Uwharrie? On a dry day with friends you can have a lot of fun there w/o lockers.

Fixed it for ya... ;)

If it's your first time, I wouldn't recommend going alone, but you could certainly go, as was said...

But before you go wheeling, take off the K&N and put something on that actually filters the incoming air.

It depends on you level of patience and of those around you. You will be "That guy" ALL DAY...

we 'draged' a stock ranger p/u 31s, through some of the eaiser trails. 4/5/7 1 locker would have been nice. With none he just plain got stuck on everything. Definlty don't wheel alone like that up there...

seriously id spend $ on a lock right (or similer) for the rer and you'd have 1000x more fun with less stress...

on a 2005? I wont take my 2004 to tellico, not until it grows a lot and is worth a lil less. Have you gone to URE yet and tried it out there? Oh and remember...the locker suggestions are great but it will void all of your drivetrain warranty....so think about that, that and $ prevent me from lockin my tj

Oh wait...i hadnt read the part about the 5 ft antenna and the windshield light mounts...yea you can make it anywhere in tellico

Sounds like he bought his junk to do more than just say "Yeah, I have a Jeep, I'm a 4-wheeler".. Kudos to him for wanting to actually wheel the damn thing.

As for the warranty, that's a load of bullshit. axle warranty? sure. t-case? they'd have to prove it. tranny & engine? nofawkin way. That's like saying your suspension lift voided the warranty on your radio.

well thats what jeep told me when I called and asked...but yeah you're prolly right Rich, but Im sure you would still have to argue and theres no guarantee you will win.

Then again...with DC you will have to argue about pretty much everything

Okaay... well, I'm not worried about void warranties, so basically my questions are A) how would I put a locker on my '90 S15 Jimmy and B) what would it cost?

I would just weld a 90 s-15 Jimmy
But not a 05 Wrangler :D

EaglesSJ,
Just remember "It's not what you have, it's what you do with what you have" - Elusive :smokin:

If you don't mind beat'in the crap out of it, take it up there and drive it like you stole it. (I'll bet you a dollar-fifty I could drive it up Guardrail :flipoff2: ) But if you want to retain some of the "newnes", you might want to get a locker first. It would make the trails a lot easier on your equipment.

If you can't afford a locker between now and then, go anyway, ride the easy trails (make sure someone will be willing to go with you on them). Take a day and ride with someone on the harder trails, and you will learn a lot about what is good and what is a joke as far as what you want to do to your Jeep.

For example: You want to see pinch rock before you take a 05 Jeep throught it for sure. It will give you an idea of what type of body protection you may want to decide on. You may notice that even on a night ride, all those expensive lights that some guys have, would have been better money spent somewhere else. Or you may disagree. A friend of mine watched lower 2 one afternoon and said "damn, I'm glad I came up here, I was going to put a limited slip in the front. But not after seeing that!"

Go and have a good time.

Wow...somehow what is always brought has been forgotten in this thread.

Its a wrangler X so it has the 35 and 30...so just a lil to think about if you decide to go with the suggestions of a locker

I recently ran5, 7, 8, 9 and most of upper 2 in a locked ifs runner. Had a ball tight up to the mad wheelstand on the first rockpile on upper. It broke, we went home. :flipoff2: If nothing else ease your way down to the rockgarden by way of lower 2 and watch the carnage. Dont go alone, I missed my connection (bunch O marines got lost on lower 2  ) and wheeled alone. Not fun, had to make damn sure I stayed out of trouble and was very picky about my lines. Unlocked 5 after the water crossing is gonna give you fits. The jarheads took a locked xj on 31's up lower2 and through the rock garden with a minimum of winching.

Well, he only has 32 x 11.50's
Think he needs an axle swap before going to Tellico?

well no, but a locker adds strain regardless of tire size. Plus its just something he should be aware about...im glad i was taught about my axles here, cuz he may only have 32s, but he has enough lift to fit 33s or larger...and trouble starts.

I ran everything but lower 2 on 32" TSL radials and a rear locker.

Just go with similar equipped people with patience and take tow straps. You need at least 1 winch in the group in case you come to an obstacle noone can make it up such as Ledge on 7 (? peckerwood connector), slickrock, guardrail, 1st ledge on Upper 2.

Don't go with a group of BTDT monster truck drivers. They'll just resent helping you and spend their time explaining how spending more $$$ would make it easier.

Oh ya, if you're running a stock Dana 35, pick up some spare axle shafts and know how to install them.

go spend some time in URE in the rain, if that is not good for ya then get some axles and try tellico, but if you are going to keep the 30,or35 then you may want to get some spare axles anyway

I ran some of the easier stuff 4/5/6/7 a few months back. Open w/ 32's and a BB in the rain. It was a lot of fun, but I hit everything underneath at least twice. I took it slow and didn't hurt anything, but my TC skid took a beating. Now that I have ARB's I'd like to try it again. The only spot I did have some trouble with was a creek crossing on, I believe 7, getting back onto the trail open required lots of momentum. That was one reason I bought lockers. Hitting stuff like that with speed makes me cringe. I've got a D44 so axles weren't a worry for me.

I'd try URE first, lots of fun and more suited for your setup.

here are some pics of what I ran with 33" BFG A/T's, front and rear LSD's (and a winch):

here are some pics of what I ran with 36" Iroks, front and rear ARB's (and the winch):

http://wrangler.rutgers.edu/gallery/Tellico-3-3-05

with a tow strap, and a winch in the group, you can have a good time on 4, 5 and 6...we ran with a group of 8 or so that first time, and had a winch at the front (me) and one near the rear...

I'd also consider some armor...diff guards, rock sliders...engine skid, gas tank skid...you either got to get it up out of the way, or protect it...

Well I guess I am gonna sit this one out based on the replies I got, I didnt know my Jeep sucked that bad. As for the whole 05 wrangler thing I could care less about it being new I bought a Jeep because I knew they were the best offroad vehicle made, I dont care to scratch it up I pla on keepin it awhile anways, its either f$%# it up now or ten years from now, I guess Ill wait till I get back from the big sandbox with my hazardous duty pay and swap my axles and get a d44 and lock it front and rear and then some other junk, I hope to have a winch by then Im on the market for a warn x8000i. Anyways thanks everyone for the replies. :)

As Far as lockers go I think I see alot more brakage with open diff. Most of the time when you are tring to climb somthing you are spinning wheels and that is very bad.

But I think the best Idea it to wheel it utill breaks, then fix it and up grade and go again. There is no such thing as a unbreakable Setup or a Bank account. Stick to easier stuf untill you are board and then work up your driving skillls and then build up your rig so you chalenge them
