I was just wondering with all the crazy mods we make to rigs, what it takes to cross the line. After I finnish this buildup, I will have no turn signals, no windshield (so no inspection sticker), no tire coverage, and no mirrors. I have driven without turn signals and no tire coverage but I am worried once I loose the windshield I am going to start getting pulled. Anybody have any experience?
I think you'll be fine without the windshield, it's moreso the turn signals that'll get your ass in trouble. Let alone the fact that you'll piss off other drivers (i.e. myself) when you don't use turn signals.
Not 100% sure about N.C. but back home in Ohio if you had no windsheild safety glasses had to be worn. For ex. rail buggies and motorcyles if a helmet is not full faced or not required. I would think as long as you had eye protection of some sort you could get by with it. Turn signals you should be able to get by without using if you use hand signals. This does not work at night though. A thought for turn signals is getting a set of cheap magnet towing lights from Harber freight for like $20. I assume you do not have them becuase they get broke on the trail or no place to mount them. These you could put a plug at the back of the cab and use the magnets on your roof. As far as mirrors go you could wire tie some mirrors somewhere. As for tire coverage you are on your own there LOL. Could fab up some removable fenders that pins in place? Good luck
I drove all around charlotte in this rig and never once got pulled. I did have turn signals and a windsheild but the buggy will be about the same and will be driven just as much. Its easy to get a piece of lexan to use as a windsheild and depends on how fast you drive it sucks to go over 40 mph in a rig without one.
I had planned on getting a piece of lexan for the windshield, but I figured I would get pulled for not have an inspection sticker. Anyone ever had problems with running no cat?
According to my Inspection lady, the NC code says absolutely nothing about a windshield for a motor vehicle except cracks in the line of sight. But According to NC book she said you MUST have working windshield wipers. We laughed at that one.
I have found out that Recreational Vehicles is the ONLY thing NC is slack on. Me coming from a very slack state - Tennessee.
Just don't dare cross into Virginia!!! They are insanely anal!
I've got lexan in my truck and it gets scratched up a bit. There is no law that states you must have a windshield. Did you use a donor vehicle for a title to get it registered. It'll need a safety sticker if it's older than '96. Just take it to a place that does motorcycles and tell them to use a motorcycle sticker on the tube that acts as an a-pillar. The sticker can technically go anywhere that is a permanent piece of the vehicle. (Like the windshield isn't). Tube would be the best place though. It is technically supposed to have everything the donor vehicle came with from the factory, but you could probably get by without turn sigs. My buddy's '49 plymouth didn't come with turn signals and only one brake light. Not that it matters on that vehicle cause it's exempt from NCSI.
why chance getting rear ended, adding turn signals and brake lights isnt that hard..especially if you have the skill to fab a tube buggy. and it isnt expensive. just do and dont sweat it anymore.
I just recently went thru a dead stoplight where a cop was directing traffic. I swear the cop gave me the evil eye as I drove by...paranoia set in and I decided he was focussing in on the lack of inspection sticker or drivers side mirror. Shortly after that I added a motorcycle mirror on my Jeep.
I figure why tempt them, at least make it look like you're trying to respect the law.

well your half right on this only way you can use a motorcyle sticker if it is register as one but on if it has to have windsheild no it does not but it has to have a place to put a sticker that is in the same area let me do some check to make sure im right i am a north carolina inspector but not had to do one in like forever i will ask at one of my shops today
I don't know the law on sticker placement, and I'm not going to pretend I do, but seeing as the Inspection stickers is sticky on the front, it'd be kinda hard to read the Info on the sticker when face mounted to a non transparent surface. .... But that's just me thinking again
i just check as long as u have a perment spot like a 5x5 glass of some sort in a fix spot it will work
lol your moto stick on back side car stick on front
