title speaks for itself how hard would this task be tho?

well if i can do it within the next 2 days i can make some money so im trying out how to do it before saying i can't

If the tank is more than half full, you're better off moving the bed back ( it'll rest on the rear tires and bumper, be careful not to bend the lower rear quarters ) You WILL need friends to help move the bed.

The tank will have sealer around the lock ring for the tank fuel module, a good brake cleaner will melt it, then you just scrape it out of the way and remove the lock ring. ( replace the whole thing, not just the pump, the fuel level sending units are known problems as well ) DO USE the new rubber seal that comes with the module asembly.

IF you opt to pull the tank, be careful loosening the tank strap bolts, the nuts they are threaded into are " Speed nuts" aka a clip with threads, and they break, and then spin, and are PITA to remove when that happens ( even worse on Tahoes and "burbs )

2.5 hrs tops for the first time, and have co-operative helpers to move the bed

I made a lift tool out of a 2x6 and a cople of "J" bolts that hooked under the bed rails and an eye bolt in the center for lifting and picked my bed straight up using a chain fall and the rafters...

I wouldnt even think about dropping the tank.

if you have a slip in bedliner an access hole is even quicker (though admitedly ghetto)

I did mine...ohh....2, 3 weeks ago? Took about an hour total, mostly because I had to crawl around with the impact gun to loosen the bed bolts. I took out the ones of the driver's side and just loosened the passenger's side, tilted the bed to the pass side, and propped the bed up on the driver's rear tire. Pulled out the old one, put in the new one, and crimped on the new pigtail connector that comes with them. I also put in a new in-line fuel filter, it had 30,000 miles on it.

My truck is a (New Body Style) long bed, so it has a 34 gallon tank. No way I was gunna pull a tank that big!

It's so nice to have a properly functioning gas gauge and now it starts right up instead of stumbling until the pump builds pressure! The original pump lasted 140,000 miles, I was surprised.

put in 6 pumps in last 2 years (98 old body 1/2 ton, 4 2000 old body 3/4 tons, 99 old body 1 ton with service body). all were 35 gallon tanks cept for mine. have it down to 30 minutes by pulling the bed back about 2 feet, just enuf to get the pump out. undo 8 bolts and 2-3 screws in the filler neck, unplug tailight harness at bumper, and pick bed up with 2 post lift (forklift, friends, whatever:) )just dont forget the little ground strap hooked to the fuel neck like i did the first time. all pumps had at least 180000 on them
