I have been buying and selling cars and trucks for a while and thought it may be easyer to do with a dealers license so how do I go about getting one?

you can find the info online under ncdmv. its not as easy as it used to be. the dmv insp. in your co. can give you all the req. if you cant find it online.

a retail license will require a sign, lot, building and a bathroom...maybe some other stuff.
A wholesaler license is easier, but you can not then sell any vehicle to private individuals...welll until, you find a retaileer to run your paperwork.

If you only do one or so a month, it aint worth the hassle

If you want to do it anyway, call these guys, they run the school you have to take to get your license

just leave the titles open and uncle sam out of the profit.

THeonly problem is a notery but I guess I coulde go get that and just have the people sign the titles and I will do the rest after I sell them
cant notarize your own signature, send wife or friend

can't you get a "hobby" license for cheaper and bypass some of the requirements?

after my run in with the scdmv....we now share the wealth.
I have sold 4 this year, my wife 3, my 8 year old son is doing really wwell he has sold 2 vehicles, and his 6 year old sister is teasing him because she has sold 3.

I sent my wife to the class, makes things much easier.

This would be the thing to do. Then she can charge ya 2 dollars everytime! ha

but if the title is open ended and the new buyer signs it then I wont be notarizing my own signature correct?

I had some hassle about notarizing a title a few weeks ago or so. Seem BOTH parties now need to be present for the notary to provide a stamp, what a PITA when you're selling/trading 100mi from home on a weekend !!

Got it handled, but it wasn't fun.

oh, and seems there is a time limit on how long you have had a title that has been signed, dated and notarized ( all of which are supposed to happen in front of Notary). I bought a camper in early Sept, signed and notarized, didn't retitle until last week, got a $15 fine ( which they didn't disclose, I found it on the receipt )

I think thats up to the person doing the notary. Some want both parties present, some will be okay with it already being signed by one person.

Notary is only needed for the seller. DMV will NOT notarize for just the seller but any bank or other place can. The DMV just doesn't want you trading open titles as it cuts them out of their tax fees.

Copied word for word off the back of a title:

I certify that the following person(s) appeared before me this day, each acknowledging to me that he or she voluntarily signed the foregoing document for the purpose stated therein and in the capacity indicated: ____________________________seller(s)/name(s) of principal(s).
Then notary junk.. below..

Now all that said, We just used a power of attorney form MVR-63 to get Val's cosigner removed from her title. Old college room mate. This form basically lists the VIN and is signed and notarized in lieu of the title signature.. I think I will be using this form more often as it seems to help with this title signing BS..

you aren't allowed to sell 5 or more vehicles in a 1 year period of each other otherwise you are acting as a dealer and they will come down on you, and trust me it sucks.
The inspectors are out there just to nab the little guy. They don't want anymore of the mom and pop small used car dealers, and they make it a huge pain in the butt

that is why I was not going to put any of them in my name just open ended and give them to the new buyer

technically as long as each one was for pesonal use and titled, registered and tagged in your name there is no limit. But who wants to wait that long?
