How to refill a spilled battery?

Apparently my battery in my truck came out of its hold down bracket & tipped over while wheeling. I didn't realize it until a few days later when I was taking the truck off the trailer and noticed the spilled acid on the frame & the battery is dead.

In the past I've just used dilluted water to "top off" the battery, but I'm not sure that is all that I need to do in this case.

It took some searching, but I found that Napa sells battery acid. How do I go about refilling the battery? I know they have hydrometers to check specific gravity, but in this case, do I fill it back with straight acid or an acid/dilluted water mix of some ratio? I also read that temperature and battery charge affects the S.G. reading. Anyone have any advice?

So, umm what do you use to dillute water?

Ok, just playing. Use distilled water and battery acid. You can buy acid at most motorcycle shops or even autozone. It will have instructions about what percent water to acid.

Oops. Distilled, not dilluted!
