How to use this adapter plug?

I recently bought a pop up camper and it uses a 7 way round plug because it has brakes. The camper is light, only about 1500 lbs and my truck ( crew cab v6 frontier) is not wired for trailer brakes. The trailer wire plug on my truck is a 4 way flat.
I purchased an adapter online. Here is what it looks like....

My question is, how do I know how to plug the it up? The blades in the adapter are not secured to the wall, and they can spin, so the chances are very slim that it will be hooked up coorectly if I just plug it up. Should I strip the plastic from around the trailer wires and try to match up the colors to the wires on the adapter?

If both are wired corectly it should be easy
4 way flat molded connectors allow basic hookup for three lighting functions; right turn signal / stop light (green), left turn signal / stop light (yellow), taillight / license / side marker (brown) and a ground (white).
the 7 pin should be wired like this

The adapter wires are not in the sequence of that diagram for "car end." if I just keep the white ground blade at the top should I be ok?

Chip brings the tech! Thanks. I was just going to look that up. I gotta tow Dylan to Auburn and need to get my plug back on so his brakes will work!

Get yourself a test light. Check and see if they are where they need to be, just not the right color. If, they are the right color and in the wrong position, I recommend going ahead and switching them around. That way, if you need to use another trailer, then you are set and no hassles.
After you do that, wire the four blade to 7 pin adapter so that what should work,. does. It's really simple. A test light, a note book and a pen, and you'll have it done in no time

Update...

I took your advice and used a multi tester to find out which blades worked what coming from the truck. With everythign in the correct position, and lined up with the trailer side diagram posted in this thread.

Brake lights worked, turn signals worked, the tail light never worked. The trailer has one bulb on each side, the bulbs each had two different filaments, one for brake and one for tail.
Left turn signal blinked correctly, right turn signal blinked the tail light filament, not the brake light filament like its supposed to. WTF?

Moist trailer lights come with a short 10" pigtail...someone could have mixed the wires up at the light. Look within a foot or so of that light and see where the connections are and if they were reversed.

you need a converter box for the brake/turn tails lights ( typical 4wire system) to work when you have an Asian /European tail light setup .

OR, you can wire separate turn signal lights to the trailer and add 2 wires just for those.

YOur Nissan uses separate turn and brake lights ( be they red or amber ) there is probably a plug and play converter box available for your rig to allow the stop/turn lights to combine for trailer towing.

I've gone thru a dozen of these converters ( the cheap diode packs burn/short out and you end up with no lights ) and have wired my current trailers for extra lights for tun signals. ( on my camper I added more tail lights too )

Somewhere I have a schematic using a series of relays to accomplish the same thing the diodes do, but I haven't had time to make the set up yet.

He's got indicators and brake lights, sounds like he doesn't need a converter box. Sounds like one of the bulbs is installed backwards (round 1157, maybe?) and the running lights aren't getting power.

Why are the blades in your 7-pin crooked? It looks like they're 15* off from where they should be.

Burrells -- that's backwards. He needs to go the other way around.

I dont know why they are crooked, if they are. All the lights on the trailer work when plugged into my parents' excursion. I dont understand why the right turn signal causes the tail light filament to flash instead of the brake light filament, only when plugged into my truck. Everything has to be wired correctly on the trailer since the lights work when plugged into another vehicle.

Okay... so let's back up one more step.

Does your Nissan have separate bulbs for the stop lamps and the indicators?

What do each of the pins on your four pin flat do? Put a test lamp or meter on them and verify. You should have left stop/turn, right stop/turn, running lamps, and ground.

This may be a stupid question but are you hooked to the trailer while trying out your lights? Depending on your ground you may have to have the trailer on the ball to be grounded to your truck. I ran into this one time. My lights were doing all kinda crazy stuff. After about two hours of trouble shooting I hooked the trailer up to take it and get help and everything started working.

I will check and post back.
