This is my first time attempting to set up a differential so i've been chasing this thing majority of the day. I'm thinking the pinion is a little bit far away still. It's a waggy dana 44 and I've got .008" of backlash and good pinion pre load right now. What do you guys think? I appreciate any input. Lemme know if the pics don't show.

Did you use the same thicknesses of shims as it previously had?

Hard to see very well on my phone, but it looks alright. Might could bring the pinion deeper in to the root of the ring gear, but then you would have to change the pinion depth to get the backlash back to being tolerable.

Yea I used the previous shim amounts as my starting point and it was off quite a bit.

Yea I'm thinking the same thing.

Looks too shallow. I would add about .005 to the pinion and run it again. Don't change the backlash shiming yet and see were that puts you.

Alright, I appreciate the input

Thanks guys. I went out and added .005 to the pinion. My backlash stayed within spec at .006. I like this pattern a lot more, let me know what you guys think.

Alright I've added .010 in shims to the pinion since my last pics. I'm gonna say it's still shallow. I need a beer...

I put in .005 more. i think it's pretty close right there. Sorry I could not get clear pic of the coast side, hopefully you can get an idea where it's at. Man I appreciate all your help so far.

I added .003 last night and it's money now. I tried to add another .003 to see what itd do and it went deep. So took that back out and I'm gonna run it. I appreciate it Lee
