Not sure on what size ram bore to go with on this, and never driven a hydro assist rig.

Cj7 full width Dana 60 with 42 TSL's. Using stock pump and box with the redneck ram pump mods. Mostly trail rig but still want to drive around town some. Is 1.5" diameter enough oomph to steer deflated 42's in the rocks? Or is 1.75" better and just deal with slower turning?

My dad and I both run 2" bore on our RC's, he's on 39s and I'm on 37s. His tires are wide and he has some pretty good offset and watching it work I think a 1.5" bore would struggle some. I still drive mine around the house with no problems but I don't think I'd take it on the highway.

I have 1.5 on the d60 under my 78 f150 on 42s. It does lack some when bound up, but I was street driving mine more back when I built it so I went for speed over power. Now that it's basically trail only I'd go with a 1.75 or even 2 just for power alone.

The 1.5 is a noticable improvement 95 percent of the time though over stock power steering.

I had a typical agricultural style 2" ram on my old cab truck with D60 and 42's. It was a bit slow on the road, but manageable. I went with a PSC 1.75" on my Jeep build with a D60 and 40's. The Jeep isn't done yet though.

I usually go with an 1.5"x8 on most of my rigs. I could see why 1.75 would benefit off-road handling. Since mine on 37s is 95% street, I love the responsiveness of the 1.5.
Surplus Center 1.5x8 ram, Stock LS pump, Stock ZJ box drilled and tapped 1/4 NPT

I've been rocking a 2x8 from Agri Supply on my K30 since like 2008. Yeah, it's a little slow, but it works pretty well.

Thanks for all the input. This project is one of those builds from what I've got laying around. Full hydro is an option, but I'm not confident the mix matched bag of hydro parts I have would cooperate or just be a constant aggravation. So I'm leaning towards hydro assist first. I don't have a spare cylinder of any sort so I'll actually get to buy the "right one". Just not sure what that is. The Jeep is still sporting the ground pounder 258 so it's not all that heavy up front. If the 1.75 doesn't have the grunt I'll probably wing the orbital in it and go full hydro, which I'm certain will require dropping in the 440 mopar too...
