I have hydro steering on the buggy. Stock P pump with a little modifications :D and a 2.5x8" double ended cylinder. Trail Gear orbital, some random filter, heat sink cooler, 2 quart reservoir, etc. All brand new parts...

My steering pump has a bad whine to it. I feel its a little loud as compared to others I've been around. The steering works flawless but seems louder than I'd expect.

Is anyone else's system have a loud whine? Am I crazy? Possible problems?

Like I said, the steering works great testing but seems excessively loud.

my mods allow a little more psi and flow. other than that, its all stock. guessing that has something to do with it.

my system was designed and balanced so it was all supposed to work together, upon start up it had a horrible whine. it only got slightly better as it heated up and had some airiation (but not horrible). The culprit ended up being two-fold: The suction line was about 6-8 inches to long and a high pressure hose rather than a suction rated hose. The latter was the main culprit. The whine was high pitched from very fine cavitation caused by fluid starvation. The pump wanted to flow more fluid than what was available causing it to be pulverized into tiny bubbles rather than flowing through the system.

x2 check the supply hose, make sure its as close and high as possible.
Also read alot where the cooler can cause some restrictions on the return side. My kit has a tube type cooler (not stacked plates).

Install an expansion tank in the return circut close to your resoviour. X3 on the supply hose.

supply hose is more than likely not the culprit. its 3" long and is nearly on top of the pump.

Its a new system so I would guess there may be some air still in the system. However, everything works great. I haven't noticed any air bubbles in the system though.

my return from the orbital goes straight to a filter then to the heat sink cooler then to the reservoir. maybe I should plumb it different?

as soon as you modify the pump, it is nothing but problems, maybe not right away, but eventually. i would bet that is your problem. slap a stocker on there, and you won't have the noise. i went through 4 "modified" or "high performance" pumps before i gave up and ran a stock pump

My pump whines like hell, and always has. I just ignore it. I modified my pump for more flow, and believe that is the culprit.
