Me and a buddy bought it. It's an 81 bronco with a 400 v8, C6 auto trans, 9" rear and HP 44 front TTB with 35's.

Hopefully I'll be hitting uwharrie within the next couple of weeks.

how much did you guys end up paying for it? OH YAH let me know when your going to ure and i can probally wheel that weekend as well and grab that spare from you.

We got it for 11hun. I'll let you know when we go to URE.

Nice purchase! I'm oddly partial to broncos for some reason. Gotta check out http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/index.php?. There's tons of info on broncos and some really cool people as well. I go wheeling with some NC bronco guys I met on that forum in the Dixie Chapter section. If you're ever up for hitting URE or elsewhere with a fleet of fullsizes, just PM me and we'll get something organized.

Cool man thanks. I just registered over there yesterday. Great Place. I like your Bronco looks good!

Thanks for the compliment. You might change your mind if you got up close to it, though. Glad you registered on FSB, I just gave you a welcome reply there hodieman.

Yep, Warren went with us and rode back in the Bronco Oven. He said he had to put his feet up on the dash to keep cool. Apparently the floorboards get really hot!!! LOL :D

Sawzall is your friend....bet you could clear 44s with the right motivation! :)

(Course DKelly will prob have some sage advice about the TTB 44 and tire sizes?)

Get ya some GOOD tow points f&r for your heavy non-winched butt! :flipoff2:

Sam...formerly fullsized rig...Hinton

I'll keep the 35's but could fit bigger. :D It has tow hooks on the front. I'm ready to wheel!!!

Oh, yeah, get that top off that thing. If it's a beater, who cares if it get wet. Just drill some drain plugs.

Noah, DK is selling the rear axle from his old Bronco, for the price of the Detroit that's inside it! If the gear ratios the same, this is a "bolt-up" locker for ya :huggy:
It was just down the street form ya, but I think its been moved a few miles for storage.

don't you need a parts truck? i'm selling a wrecked 82 for cheap...

Thanks Tony, I'll check into that. Rufus, I need a drivers side tail light, drivers side door panel & maybe a spare tire carrier.

My 2 cents:

1) Remove the body lift.

2) Cut the fenders. I cut mine in the bottom of the V about 3" up and then beat the remaining 3/4" of the V up for a new lip.

3) Remove both sway bars. Mine handled fine on the road without them.

4) The tailgate weighs 122 lbs. You might want to consider removing it. The back seat is also very heavy, probably worth another 80lbs if you ditch it.

5) Shackle flip in the rear if you have 6" worth of block. I removed so much weight from the back of my truck that I had to pull a leaf out of the packs to soften them up.

Here is a good shot of the fenders right after the truck was finished. This is with a 6" skyjacker lift and 36" TSL's:

You might want to consider mounting your spare in the cab if you remove the back seat and tailgate. We built a roll bar and mounted the spare to it. Perfect location because it does not block your view. You can also see the rubber top that we made from some roofing rubber my buddy found at the landfill. I could not drive with it down, but it worked great to keep the truck dry when wheeling or not used. You can see the piece of conduit used to support the top when down. You can also see my slack attempt at a tailgate net.

Cool, thanks for the info drkelly! What all will I need to do to remove the body lift? Any linkage ajustments? I like the way you cut your fenders too. I gotta do that.

Noah

I have never removed or installed a body lift, but I am going to bet the only thing you will need to do is adjust the tranny shifter which is stupid easy. I don't think you will have any problems with the steering shaft or brake lines. Your radiator shroud may have modified when the BL was installed, so I would also take a look at that. There should be two bolts in the floor board near the foot well, two behind the front seats, four in the bed area, and two on the front core support if I remember correctly. Hopefully the body lift was installed recently and the bolts come out easy. 20 yrs of rust had set in on mine and they were a pain in the butt to remove when I took the body off. Mostly it sucked because I was doing it alone and did not have anyone to hold a wrench on the bottom side when the dang mounts spun.

I took out the Bronco for a drive tonight and I am loving it!!! That 400 v8 kicks ass.

No lockers?

On the body lift I think he hit the high spots, when removing mine on BUG, the items I had to remove: Radiator 'drop' brackets for shroud, transmission shift linkage length was welded on so we heated/rebent it to S shape and in the back, they added a funky 'new' gas filler hose so I had to go buy a new stock one at the dealership.

Tcase shifted MUCH MUCH better after losing the body lift...btw a quick tip for the 'short' term is that you can re-use the bolts from the body lift by dropping the body lift puck UNDERNEATH and using it as a large 'washer'

To be honest I think about 4 of them are still on BUG on the 'bottom' now...I keep meaning to pull them and cut the bolt down but havent done it. WARNING if you are going to cut the bolts, make sure you have a nut (or two) already on them that way after cutting, by just backing off the nuts you will "cut" the new starting place for the bolt. (Cannot think of right terms here but it works)

I used my cutting disc on an air cutter "thing/tool" (has a shield, grinder isn't right word..hell I would be dangerous if I could remember the right names for this crap) and they worked great. Ground the end just a bit to remove the little bits and then backed off the nuts and wahlah a shorter bolt!

Thanks Sam, hope to see you on the trail soon. :D We just got a free tailgate and spare tire carrier from drkelly. Thanks DK!
