My first Jeep was a 1974 CJ5.It has the 258 in it that I installed a newer 4.0 head on and when I changed it over to full synthetic oil,I had like 5 lbs of oil pressure. The motor subsequently blew up.Although even with a gaping hole in the side of the block,I moved it this weekend and it still runs great.Just smokes a lot.I am curious what would y'all do with it?It's a really clean Jeep and it was my first so it carry's that feeling.I have full Chevy drivelines laying around,350 motor,4speed trans and transfer but I am told that it's too short to run that in it.Any ideas?Sell it and get a CJ7?I really like the little guy and I am curious who has built similar Jeeps as well as what works, what doesn't??

Too run that set up, and have some flex, allow for some lift, best bet is to lengthen your wheel base. You can use longer springs, or lengthen your fram or frame mounts
A CJ 7 is only 10" longer than your 5, so really a CJ-7 is still a little short for your chevy drive train

I would give it to me to add to my colection  But seriosly throw some 4" lift (sua) yj springs under it 33x12.50s and stretch the wheel base a few inches with longer spring perches and drive the wheels off of it. There are to many 5's cut up and decent ones are getting hard to find.

Check out some pics of mine on my build thread if you would like
