Seeing Jon (Studnuts) and Shawn (Saf-t) at Lowes made me think about the fact that over the past few months I have had absolutly no drive to work on my truck. It has been sitting untouched in my shop since probably May. It's not that I dont have the resources to finish, I have most everything to get it rolling minus steering components and drive shafts. It's just everytime I have a chance I'd rather do something else. No power at my shop has a little to do with it, but my bud has a generator he said I am more than welcome to use. Also the fact that I have one hell of blood clot in my chest and am on crazy blood thinning meds and bleed a lot if I get the slightest cut. But since I saw them both I think it might have gotten some momentum rolling, I might try to finish up the rear half of my frame next week over Thanksgiving break.
Have any of y'all ever gotten like this? It's not like I have lost interest, just motivation.

I was in that position. I took my Bronco apart in late December of 2004 and recently finished it. I have been working a lot of OT over the past two years so when I was off work, many times I just felt liking doing something fun and not working on my truck. What helped me was to make a list of every item left to complete. Put every little thing on there. Even tasks that take 1/2 hr to complete. Then, when you do get some time to work on your truck, you can look at the list and pick something you WANT to do and fits in the available time you have to work on it.

Yep, just take it one task at a time and you can get through it. My jeep was out for two years........call your friends to help....

Yep, I have got like that somewhat. Mostly when I have worked on it so much, even pulling all nighters go for a ride, maybe break something, then when back home, it sits waiting on the next wrench session.

I also do the list thing too. Seems to motivate me as to what I can get marked off.

While I haven't built up a rig I've completed a lot of projects like that, mostly in the woodworking realm. I just tell myself to do something, anything, and it will march toward completion. One of the hardest things to do was to get changed into shop clothes and get started. Once I was in the shop it wasn't hard to make a little progress.

My advice is to just get out there and get going. You'll be happy at the end of the work session when you've made a little progress. Nobody is going to do it for you. :)

Exactly. 75% of my work has been done directly before trips. All nighters and such, then afterwards you're burnt out...:shaking: Oh well. Maybe I'll try a list.

Sounds like you need to plan a trip. Between all the work you'll have to do in preparation, and all the work that gets done on the trail (6 guys together on 1 trail will do the work of 20 guys at home, alone, in their 20 separate garages), you'll get a ton of stuff accomplished.

Mine is running but it has been over a year since I did any work to make it better. I have a rear end in the building waiting to be built. Maybe one day I will actually start onit. What I am finding is that as my kids get older I am spending more time running them her there are yonder leaving little spare time.

all the work that gets done on the trail

Yeah, THAT'S good advice. He'll be like Dave Young... four miles up the trail, stopped to grease the wheel bearings.

Definitely not a bad idea, though. Pick some event that you want to go to in the spring, make a list, and get your junk done in time to go.

I hear you. With my Nissan wheeling rig, my '69 Blazer resto-rig, and my boat, I have too many projects to accomplish everything in the little spare time I have. Compound that with not having a garage to work in (my Blazer and boat are at my folks house 30 mins. away) and that is a recipe for a whole lot of procrastination and excuses. I started stripping and prepping a 9" for my Nissan over 2 months ago and haven't touched it since. I thought I'd have it SASed in time for a big run in AZ in March. HAHAHAHA. Not so sure now that I've blown the last two months. Looks like I'll have to do it IFS, if I do it at all this year.

Motivation is priceless, if you could bottle it and sell it you'd make more money than God could ever acquire.

I keep a clip board on the hood with a long list of stuff that needs attention.
My best work times are either as soon as I get home from work and don't even go into the house or on a weekend that I plan to take care of some stuff.
It can be overwhelming. Maybe you can ask for some help to get you jumpstarted. A little bit of progress is a great motivator.

I can't wait until the day when I have my own garage to work in. Where I could go and work 15 mins, an hour or all day, and if I am not finished, I can leave everything out, so I can start right back where I left off, and not have to put everything up.
A list is very helpful, I use one for about everything.

Yo,

Try taking a day and CLEAN the shop and organize. Then make the list as others have suggested. I have found that if you clean the shop you become motivated. It's the mess that will depress...you

yea the ATF is good, someone said it might be my muffler bearings...

Thanks for the info guys, as soon as I get some free time from school (hopefully t-giving break) i will make the list and get a move on.
Keep the advice and stories comin, glad i'm not the only one!!

thought you were in park rob. pot meet kettle my rear axle has been disconnected and resting on the springs since august. new axle sitting 3 feet behind it waiting on me.

:flipoff2:

I keep ordering parts, but don't have the time to install them. So I guess i'm coasting slowly in neutral :shaking:

I actually think with multiple projects you are better off. sick of one work on the other. Also you have to get rid of tv, women, beer.... wait not beer or women.

No, you get rid of the TV and women. You keep the beer and use it to keep yourself going on late night workathons and to entice your buddies in to coming over to help. I can get a ton of work out of Stump with a case of Bud Light in the fridge. Getting rid of the internet would have helped me, but then my truck would have looked like one on the cover of Four Wheeler magazine back in 1982.
