So i've just switched efrom 2-U joint to double cardan w/ u at the pinion end.
Runs well but still have some minor highway vibes.
right now it looks like I have ~2.5 deg downward tilt, static.

now I know that it should be 0, but then i've read some folks suggest leaving a little tilt to accomodate for the actual angle when under torque from axle wrap etc.
Is there a magic number for this amount? I'm sure I need to decrease it some, already using 4 deg shim, figured I might move up to 5 or 6

On my blazer I had vibration issues at highway speeds when I let off the throttle. I did the same double cardan/single Ujoint at pinion for my new driveshaft. With my shackle flip, the driveshaft angle at pinion is zero. This solved my vibration issues 100%.

As for the load/torque issue, I decided that axle wrap would occur on take-off so to speak, and not at highway speeds. That's why I kept the zero angle at pinion.

No magic numbers, because it depends on how resistant your springs are to wrapping up, if you have a wrap bar installed, etc..
