I just bought a 78 F250 and I want to ditch the stock idiot lights for the oil pressure, oil temp, and voltimeter. Do I just plug up the existing wires to new guages using the stock senders, or do I have to buy new senders and everything? Also it dosent have a tach, how dificult is it to install an aftermarket one?
In case it matters the engines a 351modified. The trans and Tcase are still too covered in thirty years of crap to determine what they are.

If you want accurate readings, you will need a new sending unit. Get one that has an oil line to the guage. Most come with a plastic line, I recomend getting one of the copper line kits to go with it. The temp guage is for water not oil. I would replace that sending unit also. As far as the volt meter, you could use existing wire for it or replace it. The tach comes with directions, follow those and you will be fine with the install.
