IM KINDA LOST

So forgive the dumb question..
I have a 87 yj 4.2 auto, that I have been learning on. (im a medical dude)

But I am kind lost and not sure what happened.
I took off the old solenoid, as it had a crack in the housing.

I bought new one (driveworks 84010 carquest)and hooked it up (before I took the old one out I took photos) anyway everything went fine, and it stated right up. (whooo hoo yeah me).

so I pulled it out of the shed, and parked it in the yard, Disconnected the battery as i had a few things i needed to do. So once I finished hooking up the radio, I connected ther red cable, as soon as the negative cable couched the post it started to turn over?

any ideas?

Unhook the radio and start over with the battery connected. It sounds like you may have tried to tie into the switched acc wire for the radio but crossed something with the ignition.

Ok radio removed

Still same issue,,,

Should I replace the solenoid?

Probably a crappy solenoid, unhook the little wire that goes to the solenoid and see if it still does it. That eliminates a short to voltage activating the solenoid. If it still does then its a bad solenoid, if not then short to voltage.

Get a bwd solenoid. I've had bad runs of solenoids. (Consecutive failures of several in a row). If that doesn't fix it, I've had better luck with 86 Ford f150 solenoid, you'll lose the neutral safety forfor start though.

I don't know if that year YJs have the same computer that 82+ CJs had, but my computer went bad and that's what happened.

So I disconnected the starter and hooked battery back up and got the accessory buzzer..Lights ect..

So bad solenoid? I’ll swap it out as I have a spare
