Sup everybody! My name is Colin, and I'm a college student. I recently purchased a 1985 S10 Blazer from a friend, and I figured forums would be a good place to get ideas. I hope this is not like the other forums where they simply trash talk you for being a noob. Its bone stock, so its a blank canvas. Any ideas?

BTW its a 2.8 V6 and its a daily driver. i just had the Tranny rebuilt, and im workin on the transfer case.

So what is it that you want to do with?

if it is a DD then and you need it to get to work/school then I would not get too crazy. if you want something to Wheel hard the I would suggest a solid axle Vehicle.i.e. jeep cj,tj,yj,xj, full size Wagoneer, cherokee, j-truck, Toyota, old bronco etc....

IF you wheel your DD hard soon it will not be a DD or you will stuck broke down on you way to work/school

Chuck, your getting soft

as for the s10 keep your tires on the smaller side it will be easier on the rest of your drivetrain if your on an obstical & you start to bounce STOP your about to break. stay out of the skinny pedal when in 4x4. Good luck

hey colin, no one will flame you for being a noob.
just read the stickies and obey the rules and don't be an asshat. take sarcasm in stride and you will be okay.

now trade that pile for a yota and you'll be set.

(i think that was the nicest post i ever wrote.)

....what have you done with chuck? :alien:

All in all, though you nailed it chuck. We've never obliterated someone who read the rules...

If he is gonna get another vehicle, given his current propensity for bowties, you did ignore the entire k5/k10 73-87 trucks...

There was a reason for that.. :flipoff2:

Get a Yota and drop a SBC in it- best of both worlds.. :driver:

awesome

ok, awesome. i bought the truck for 600 bucks from a friend, i figured it would be a good starter 4x4. im not really a big guy, so the S10 Blazer fits me fine as far as size. u guys get a lot of S10 owners in here? i know K5s are everywhere

Rich normally I would expect that, but he did recommend cherokees, jtrucks and broncos....I mean in addition to the ?Js....

If he had just said if you want solid axle get a yota, I would have let it slide...

I you're new to the whole 4x4 scene, try wheeling it stock for a bit, then you'll know what you can and can't do with it and what you'll want to upgrade. Not too many s-10 owners here, but a few. Better get your truck in gear though, URE closes in a couple of weeks!

whew, at least im not the ONLY S10 owner here. ive been wheelin in it before, but the guy before me didnt really take good care of it. its not really a junker, but ive had to put a lot of money into it to get it right ie tranny, new tires, transfer case ( he ran the crap out of the trans with full knowledge that it had a HUGE leak. DUMB@$$).

well....youve got the start of a buggy, just need better axles and alot of sawsall blades!

Yea if its gonna be your Daily driver I wouldnt go past a 3" body lift and some 32's, don't crank the torsion bars if you can help it.

If its somthing you wanna get serious with i'd swap in a ford dana 44 9 inch combo, weld both diffs and slap some 35's on it and go, super cheap and will hugly improve your offroad capabilities as well as being super easy to do :driver:

Keep the S-10 stock, baby the heck out of it, and find something else to wheel.
The 2.8 isn't a good engine to wheel. Engine upgrade is gonna be costly due to snowball effect. Putting money in this one for anything other than a DD is just not a good idea.
Find one of the above mentioned rigs and go have fun. Kill it and you still have something to drive and get ya around
