I once went to Mortimer Campground via Brown Mountain Beach Rd. The dust was worse than Uwharrie in August. I am looking at possibly trying Hwy 90 from Collettsville. As near as I can tell it is narrow and likely has several switchbacks. Can any of you folks give me some first-hand info on this? Feedback appreciated!!!:beer::beer:

Most of NC90 is paved from Collettsville all the way on past Globe Road and is a pretty easy drive. Right as you come out of Collettsville there is one section about 100ft long where it is pretty narrow between a rock wall and the river, but I've been through with my truck and trailer without issue. I do believe at some point it turns to gravel, but I don't remember where. Maybe around Maple Grove Road? It's been a few years since I went that way, but I don't remember anything that would have concerned me driving a normal vehicle. Will you be pulling a trailer or camper?

To finish this thread... I just called Betsey's Ole Country Store (should have done that first). The lady told me it's a long drive on a dirt road regardless of the route I choose. Since I gotten old and developed a dislike for washing trucks & trailers I believe I will stick with The Pines. No dirt roads... no wash jobs required. ThanX! :)

Yeah, its definitely gravel, but is a pretty nice drive if the road isn't washboarded up, and there's not a lot of traffic from that direction, so it's probably in good shape. But if you don't want to wash it, you're better off skipping the gravel.
