Ok so I got that new lexan windshield in finally. $260 for a 4x8 sheet and I got two windshields out of it. My question is, Is there a way I can attach my inspection sticker without sticking it on the lexan. I understand the whole point of the thing is so that you can't swap it from vehicle to vehicle, but taking it off next year will scratch the lexan all up and I'm trying to avoid that. Any Ideas as to what I can do?

maybe,, cut a small square of lexan the size of the sticker, attach sticker to it and affix the square to the windshield somehow. somehow could be screws, rivets, double sided tape, etc. after sticker expires repeat process.

...and i know who wants to drill holes in a brand new peice of lexan... but this was the first idea that came to mind. not the only solution.

show some pictures when you get it figured out.

Just have a plate or other area on the vehicle that a motorcycle-type sticker can be affixed to. You outta be good to go. Doesn't have to be clear.

Tell the inspection station to use a plastic blade to remove the inspection sticker. You have to do this on some of the newer cars also or you will scratch the plastic film that is on the inside of the windshield. We have the plastic blades at the shop. They are red and shaped just like a razor blade to fit in the holder. They also work good at removing decals from paint.

bigasses answer seamed pretty good but I'm not sure if they can do that. You could easily move that plate from car to car. If they will I'd do it like that. Make a plate and put double sided tape at the bottom or top.

Rich's answer is correct, find an inspection station that has the motorcycle type stickers, the sticker must be attached to a NON removable part of the vehicle.
( windshied is considered this, don't get technical )

I am just finally getting around to finishing my inspection cert. and this was brought up in the class Tues. If you have a ful cage, the sticker can be applied directly to this as well.

cool, thanks guys, I'll try the motorcycle sticker thing. Don't have a full cage so I'll have to come up with something else but it shouldn't be too hard.

Be prepared for some pull happy cops though. My dad built a dune buggy when I was younger and we had a lexan winshield to. He had to have someone inspect it because it had a custom title. The sticker was put on a bar directly below the windshield on the drivers side. Cops pulled us over all the time, they tried to give us a ticket even with the inspection sticker. We had to explain over and over again about the window being removable and thats the only reason it was placed there. I wasn't aware these inspections were avaliable for cars though.

Yeah, like Kevin said, I think all you have to do is have it on the vehicle in that area of the windshield? Don't even think you have to have a windshield in NC ( I know you don't in SC).

The Beast said:
I'm pretty sure it's the law in NC that you have to have a windshield and a working wiper.

Sorry, that's incorrect.

§ 20‑127. Windows and windshield wipers.

(a) Windshield Wipers. – A vehicle that is operated on a highway and has a windshield shall have a windshield wiper to clear rain or other substances from the windshield in front of the driver of the vehicle and the windshield wiper shall be in good working order. If a vehicle has more than one windshield wiper to clear substances from the windshield, all the windshield wipers shall be in good working order.

Inspection criteria:
§ 20‑183.3. Scope of safety inspection and emissions inspection.

(a) Safety. – A safety inspection of a motor vehicle consists of an inspection of the following equipment to determine if the vehicle has the equipment required by Part 9 of Article 3 of this Chapter and if the equipment is in a safe operating condition:

(5) Windows and windshield wipers, as required by G.S. 20‑127.

looks to me like it doesn't, but if it does it has to have a wiper in good working order. I drove the thing around the parking lot w/o the windshield and would not want to drive down the road like that! Just the parking lot was breezy.

Think of it as a motorcycle with 4 wheels and a rollcage. just wear your shades !

I know it doesn't. Brannock's service station won a law suit against the state over that same law. If you do happen to have a window as long as it doesn't impair the drivers side then it passes as well.
