I have been waiting all day for the FedEx truck and it is now 4:30 and they still aren't here. I was wanting to get one side of my axle back together tonight. The shop that offered to prees my new BJ's in closes at 5, is there a way I can install them without a press? Or should I just wait until tomorrow and let them do it. I am just anxious to get the front end back under the CJ. Don't tell me to rent the clamp as both auto stores that rent tools are out of them right now.
Thanks

dont hammer, it wont work, u will just end up with broken ball joints. Go to Advance Auto and rent the ball joint kit, its 100ish bucks and you get the money back, it has a screw press and a bunch of adapters to press the old ones out and the new ones in. You will spend half the time getting the old ones out that you would with a hammer, and you will be able to put the new ones in.

or...piece of tube that is a direct fit over the lip of the joint...but make sure it's not too small...gotta be just the right size...then whack it with a hammer...

I assume CJ joints have somewhat of a lip as others do?
