I kind of remember reading this awhile back but I'm unsure. I was in an accident yesterday, an older lady ran a stop sign and plowed into the side of me. I'm a little pissed off about it as it's now going to kill the resale value on the truck. I think I remember reading somewhere that in NC when someone hits you that you are entitled to get some money to make up for that loss in value of the vehicle. Anyone know anything about this?

Sure can . Friend of mine got about $2000 on his 2002 s10 when someone hit him .

You should have fell out of the truck & flopped around like a fish while holding your neck.

Glad nobody got hurt.

Other than that I have really nothing usefull to add.

Good luck

no legal expert here, but iirc, the insurance company will 'make you whole' by fixing your truck, getting the diminished value usually means you will have to sue the person that hit you.

best person to ask is your agent. My buddy just went through this and got a substantial amount for the loss of value but then again his truck rolled off the lot less than a year ago.

My girlfriend's car was involved in a hit and run this past summer and it was less than a year old. She was talking about suing for diminished value, I'll have to ask her if she ever talked to a lawyer about it.

YUP, diminished value. the insurance agent will not like filing it but they have to if you ask. This is one of the few states that recognizes it but there is a age restriction on the vehicle. Just speak with the agent handling your claim, you should not need to sue to receive this. I have gotten it on more than one occassion.
