Good lookin CJ....definitely better burnt orange. I'm from Marshall too, we should get together and ride sometime. I've got a crew from Black Mountain (where I work) that wheels together and we're always looking for more.
Thank's , you'd never tell it by looking, but it has taken alot (alright, a friggin s***load) of work to get it were it's at now.
I bought it for one of those can't pass up deals, from a local preacher who was in way over his head.
1st- fix rear pinion angle (can you say it rolled like a ratchet) on the orginal corp 20 axle which p.o. had spent one G note to rebuild (<---foolishness) including brand new axle shafts and hubs (<----- yes 2 pc extreme foolishness)
2nd- tear out new auburn posi carrier because thrust block needed for the 2 pc axle setup was missing. (btw it had 0 miles since rebuild, makes me wonder when a pro powertrain shop can let that slide)
3rd-original t150 making some bad bearing noise, no biggie right? just swap it out with the extra t150 that came with the jeep, but wait, there's more. read on
4th cut the crossmember/skidplate from the frame since some... shall we say, mentally challenged individual welded it to the frame. And they made up for weld quality with weld quantity. (<---- alright, we've now far surpassed any amount of foolishness, and moved to the realm where physical threats may be necessary, if the person's responsable for this are spotted anywhere near a vehicle in need of any repair they should be severely beaten about the forehead with a snap on 1-3/4" combination wrench)
5th- rebuild another 304 to swap for the original 304 since it had 6 broken piston rings, and one of them had wore the 3 ring lands into 1 then proceeded to wear out the cylinderwall. (I told you it had a skip, why won't you listen to me)
after that things got easier, you know little stuff like SOA,drive shaft fab, find and rebuild/regear a dana44, and added an arb of course, front axle will get done after my dd (1965 falcon 2dsd) gets rebuilt. Then there's the total rewire(and I do mean TOTAL, not one old piece of old wire left, new fuse panels, all new wire, all soldered, all heat shrunk, almost waterproof) that was done after the painless replacement fuse panel fried
itself.
The good news is that it needed no cosmetic work at all, someone already did a fair job on floor repair, and new tub sides. as much as I may not like the color whoever sprayed it di a pretty good job, I even waxxed it once.
Sorry I'm so wordy toaday, I've been home with the flu for almost 2 week, and I'm getting bored.
So when yu'ns go out pm me I'll make it if I can.
