So I have been recommended the SpotOn brand of fence, they are $1k so it's a big pill to swallow. Looking for first hand experience from people that aren't online reviews.

I have not researched much yet as we just got a new dog today. We used to have a Pyrenees/Shepard mix (Sarge) and he definitely liked to disapyr every once in awhile, likely most often due to gunfire. Sarge did well with the invisible fence (wired version) but we want to essentially fence in much of the woods behind our house (that isn't our property) and it's not feasible to do it with wire. Also with the SpotOn, if we go hiking at our land, it can work anywhere apparently.

I got suckered into this deal, I knew this 'free' dog was going to cost me an arm and a leg before I put him in the Expedition šŸ¤£.

Not gps but we have the petsafe box with a range. Works great for us, even when traveling. I wanna go the gps but itā€™s gonna sting lol šŸ˜‚.

My son has halo for his two dogs. Works incredibly well. Must maps - he can come to our place make a few clicks and have a temporary fence.

The collar seems biggish but his dog (rescue ā€œpit lab mixā€ - how generic) doesnā€™t seem to mind it

Have a halo for one of our Anatolians. It works great and as big as he is (175lbs) it is dwarfed by his size. Only issue we have had is battery life. Best Iā€™ve gotten is 36 hrs. He is constantly on the move so I suppose that ā€œmayā€ have something to do with it given he is testing its boundaries constantly making it ping and do work. Also, they are NOT cheap.

I used halo for a little while for one of pits.

She learned it very quick but she also was already trained on an e-collar which helped.

If you have heavy tree coverage they don't work amazing, if you don't have cell coverage also you won't be able to see where they are (but the collar will still work, just won't be able to see it in the app)

I still have the halo collar for ours for when we want her to have more of the yard then the part we fenced recently. Even the halo you need to charge every day (they just came out with a new version also)

Well I ordered the SpotOn from retailer Optics planet. $962 shipped after tax.... It suppose has a 'heavy woods' setting that can be used, I figure during winter we shouldn't need it but for summer the trees might be an issue. I doubt I will do the subscription, possibly while we are on vacation or something, but I can't see needing it on a day to day basis.
