i found one that has a 3 speed tranny and a straight six, it runs but has not title.. dana 30 front dana 44 rear, kinda rusty but still sturdy i figured it would be a good trail ride or a to turn into a mud buggy

You are pretty safe with about anything that will run and drive for $500
Check out the frame real good.
Sounds like some really cheap fun

Nope, that's why I will take it off your hands for $501! :)

If I was you I would pass on this one and wait for the next one...

Now what was the address and owners name:lol::lol: For $500 if its all there and will run I would buy it unless you are wanting something to restore. But at $500 I would still buy it just for the parts. Good luck

x2
the no title is a dealbreaker for lots of people
D44 was not offered in '78 CJ, so something has been swapped.

I would not pay $500 for a CJ5 to wheel. Frame is weak and will need stretched. If you just want a mall crawler..Good buy if it runs and drives.

Speak'n of weak. That's a weak excuse to not buy it for $500.

To each their own, but I would buy a $300 cherokee before i would buy a $500 CJ5. Now a $500 CJ7 or Wrangler would be a different story. This is just from personal wheelin perspective. Not knockin a CJ5 as they have their coolness for what they are, a short wheel based fun in the sun ride

speaking of a 300 cherokee thats what i paid for mine when i bought it with a blown motor and flat tires, now i have about 3500 in it and still building but i just wanted something to tear up some mud on a few time and not worry about my xj because i drive it daily so i cant afford to romp around the mud on it much but i do race it once a month

Now Steve, you've seen me wheel and torture my CJ 5. I can't believe you'd say these things:shaking:. Just kidding. Your right though to each their own. Since I started wheeling I've wanted to link and go one tons but I'm not as excited to do that after some experience on the trail. Yes there are some obsticles that get a little hairy and some that the short wheel base cannot attempt(Very few) but at the same time I have walked across/up many obsticles that the one toned/ linked vehicle had to pull rope on. So each have their advantages. For a budget build to just have good clean fun with the $500 CJ5 is a great deal if it runs and drives.
