Sorry I just have to blow off some steam for a bit....

So I buy a car trailer from this guy and he asks if I'd be interested in a winch too? Well yeah if the price is right... so he shows me this Warn HS9500i that's on a wrecked TJ and asks if I want it for $300! So I'm like sure, (inside I'm doing back flips) but the bad part is I don't have the cash on me. So he says he'll hold it till I make it back up there. Well a week goes by and I get a call, ...he just sold the dang jeep with the winch on it!!!!! WTF!? What ever happened to somebody keeping their bleeping word! MAN I'M SOOOO PISSED OFF NOW! *@#$%)U%$U*()@#!
:wtf:

Anyone else have a gutless pathetic worm scum of person story to share!?
:flipoff:

Steal on a winch means someone was needing loot...You didnt bring it to him in a WEEKS time...He sold winch. Sorry but i see no harm..

Once again people..If you want something you better go get it asap..if you wait you will get butt hurt..

I JUST ASKED A GUY TO HOLD WHEELS AND TIRES FOR ME TILL SUNDAY BECAUSE OF THE 2 HR DRIVE, BUT 10 MIN AFTER I GOT OFF THE PHONE I CALLED HIM BACK AND SAID ILL SEE YOU TOMORROW. (1) I FELT BAD ABOUT ASKING HIM TO HOLD TILL SUNDAY. (2) IT WAS A DEAL AND I WAS AFRAID SOMEONE ELSE WITH CASH WOULD COME BY... IT KILL ME TO MISS A GREAT DEAL, BUT WE CANT GET THEM ALL YA KNOW...

I'm waiting on one of these situations right now....not very happy

That kind of deal is worth a trip to the ATM. And at least he called you.

If he said he would hold it, I think he should have held it. I have held items many times because I give my word. Also, have asked things to be held. I keep looking to be the topic on a bad buyer list though. I made a deal on a couple wheels, and accidently deleted the PM's, this thread made me think about it. It's been a while, but wished I would hear back from the guy.

The problem is most buyers can't be trusted at their word. I don't sell a lot of stuff, but I've been stood up many a time! Somebody promises to be there, then never shows, calls, or in some cases, even returns emails. People ask you to "hold" things in the heat of the moment, but after having a chance to think, or ask the wife, change their minds. Maybe they're just deadbeats, who knows. I'm not proud of it, but I've done it too. Now, if I ask somebody to hold something, I try to force some cash in their hand to act as a placemarker. If they won't take it, I assume it may get sold before I get back, and I hurry my ass up getting the cash! For a deal like that on a winch, I wouldn't have made it back home. I would have found the closest ATM and done the deal. If you wait a week, you might as well write it off, unless you're calling him EVERY DAY. Sorry, no sympathy. Consider this a lesson learned, and quit crying over a winch.

It's all about cash in hand. Your word is nothing more than a promise to put cash in his hand at a later date.

His word to hold it, that kinda sucks but unless it's someone I know I never believe either side of it- that they'll hold something for me or that I should hold it for them.

Money talks, I hear I'll be back at least twice a day at the car lot, only about 10% comeback, so in my opinion buyers are liars. If you wanted the winch you should have paid for it then or left a deposit.

Damn...how do you get 10% to come back? Most people waste my time kicking tires and telling me about how they're going to borrow the money from their wifes, aunts , mothers, cousin and they'll be back tomorrow...and I never see them. Customers lie way more than sales people ever thought about.
Take it as a lesson, I'd have found that cash asap if I wanted that winch. He called you after a week, how long did you think he would hold it woth no deposit?

I agree with him. I've had this done to me some many times I really wonder if there's anyone out there worth a :poop:

I love the people that come on boards and say "cash talks" like that's what the pros always say :shaking: If the guy said he'd hold it then yes I would expect him to. Now if the guy said first come, first served then that would be a different story.

Don't make a promise you can't fulfill. I always try to be fair when dealing with people. If I say I'll hold it then I will. If someone asks about it I tell them they're next in line and so on. What's so hard about that? Make a timeline you can feel comfortable about. If the guy says it'll bea week and you agree then give him his week then all bets are off. Another advantage to these threads are seeing who not to deal with in the future.

^ lol, good stuff.

Glad to see that most everyone on here is a hardcore and thinks that money is the only real motivational factor in this world. I was in contact with the guy a couple times after I left, he knew I was coming, he's just a weasel and decided that his word wasn't worth anything even to himself. Oh and not everyone has an extra $300 dollars laying around waiting at the ATM. It was hard enough to drive that far to justify getting the car trailer and then I find this gem of deal but I don't have the cash. Guy seems legit says he will hold it because I was coming back through the area in a week, talked on the phone, about to leave the next day, he sells it right under me. Oh and I was gonna pick up the title for the trailer he couldn't find the first time too.

Look guys this isn't some weak "yeah I'll come back by" deal like you think. It was planned, he knew I was coming and that was it. Like Orangecherokee said, I guess I know now who not to do business with on the forum. Thanks for the warning!

:D

I have had a lot of buyers stand me up too, but if the guy said he would hold it he should have held it. I tell people I won't hold stuff, but honestly if someone came through on one purchase I'd probably make an exception. You definitely have to set a date that the deal expires though so there is no misunderstandings when you sell it to someone else.

Ok......so did you give the guy an exact time and date when you'd be back and he agreed to hold it until then? Or did you just call occasionally and say you still wanted it?

No one is trying to sound like a pro that says "cash talks"....most people who are saying that have been lied to over and over again about someone coming to buy something, "hold it for me", and they never show or show up weeks later bitching about it being sold out from under them. If you set a specific date and time and he said he'd hold it till then, then yeah, he's a dick. But if no specific date was set and agreed on , then tough shit.

If you set up a specific time that you would be back to pick up the winch, he shoulda held it. If it was a casual plan, it woulda been nice if he at least gave you a heads up there was another potential buyer. But chalk this up to experience, and put a deposit down next time if you don't have all $300.

^ Yes agreed, I'll chalk this up with never be nice to someone during a fender bender and try to work it outside of the cops/insurance. Been there, done that!

It's all good fellas just thought I would share in my loss and I guess it's been fun for all to give their opinions. I've learned to stay on top of people about these deals and maybe others will use this wisdom also.
