went DIY on my hydro assist. have a j-20 box tapped runnin 8x2 ram with a tranny cooler on the return side of the line and stock pump.

number one. do i need to put an extension on the pump to hold more fluid?

and my concern is if the jeep is on jackstands with the draglink disconnected via the pitman arm when i turn the wheel the hydraulic ram doesnt move left or right till full lock then it goes on about its merry way. is that correct? it only assists at full lock or when the draglink is hooked up and im trying to turn its pushing enough pressure for the ram to work with it instead of at full lock?

It's working right.

An extension (and a cooler) isn't a bad thing, it may or may not be required.

ive got the cooler on now. probably gonna do the extension as well. still a bitch to turn 42's steering radius sucks too. not even hittin the stops with the 8" ram lock to lock.

little late now, but it's best to measure your tie-rod and see how far it moves when going from lock to lock. 10" might be too much though.

I am running a 2X8 ram as well. You WILL need an extension. That size ram sucks so much fluid out of your reservoir when fully extended it will burn your pump up. The reason your ram doesn't move until full lock is the fluid is taking the path of least resistance. Once your on the ground and drag link is hooked up, it will do what it's designed to do, and "assist" to move those big meats.
