I called a guy about a Jeep Comanche today. The truck is in Boone so I figured there would be rust. It's a 1988 model with 140,XXX miles on it. It has the 4.0 and 5-spd and its 2wd. He wants $250 for it. He says that it runs and drives great. Here's the bad...it has cosmetic and structural rust. I know the cosmetic rust can be fixed but is the structural rust even safe? He also said it has a leaky gas tank. I don't know if a gas tank can be found cheap or not. I'm looking for a cheap daily driver so I need some expert advice from y'all because most of y'all know what you're talking about. Here's some pictures of the truck...Please let me know what you think about it, thanks!

if it runs good, I'd say $250 is a fair price. You could prob. part it out for at least that if it turns out to be a total waste.

The rust could be more of an issue than just the body and frame...look at the fuel and brake lines. They can also rust out. Take into consideration that if you have to work on this thing.....the majority of the bolts won'd come loose. They will break off. If you just needed the 4.0 then I would say go for it. I'd say it could become a pain in the ass.

i smell 4x4cross vehicle!

It would never survive the first rock.

Body rust doesnt bother me. Frame rust, and the mentioned likely brake line and fuel line rust, would steer me away from it. We got a free toyota last year, and the frame was rusted similar to the pic posted, and when I cinched down on the front chain binder the spring hanger ripped off the frame.
