Well long story short I have had four apointments with the cable guy who never called or showed. This has caused my wife and I to miss; well I wouldn't say miss work.

I would like to know if any of you in the hickory area who have Directv get local channels. The Directv people tell me that it is hit or miss wether I will get local programing.

Thanks,
Peter

We get local channels with Directv between Lincolnton and Dallas.

I've always loved my time warner cable and when I had DirecTV i was always very happy with it as well.... Charter is the only cable provider in topsail and after being with them for almost 3 months I can't wait to get my DirecTV service back! These people are fools. Not only do they LOCK the cable box on my house, which by law I OWN, but they are HORRIBLE with customer service and the cable service itself is prehistoric with features and always having outage problems.

Unless you plan to get NFL sunday ticket, look at Dish network.

I am an authorized dealer for both (2 different "names" ;) )

And there is really very little differences. Directv has NFL Dish is ~$8-10/month cheaper for most users.

Pretty fawkin sad when DirecTV is better than ANYTHING else.

And I've had charter, DirecTV, and now TWC..

I've got Direct TV, I love it, much better then Charter. I've had Dish Network, it was ok, only issue I had was when either the card or the box went out, they wouldn't replace it, wanted to charge me more then I paid for the whole system in the first place. Canceling it was a pita, kept charging for 4 months after cancellation.

Both of them suck at CS.
If you can get either through a dealer you can usually get bettre rates and have a local contact to resolve issues.

Neither one even hassle me when I call for RMAs. The way it was explained to me, even if I accpet defects they otherwise wouldn't, they are ok with it because of the phone time I save on the legit ones. However most dealers arent going to resolve issues unless they installed it as neither will pay their damn warranty bills. (Directv owes me ~$1900 going on 20 months over separate warranty labor issues)

If you have to deal direct, dont even bother with customer care. Go straight to retention.

If you ask for retention you will get the idiot in the next cube, instead tell whoever answers that you want to cancel. When the cancel rep answers tell them you are willing to stay a customer and give them your terms. They will either accept, decline or counter. Bt there is no escalation with them Each retention rep will have tons of CS phone time and be a team leader so they get some latitude

We have DirecTV at my house in Newton, and get all the local channels, no problem... We used to have the sat go out in really bad T-storms, but once i climbed back on hte roof and dialed it in better, no problems...

a buddy in Newton had DISH and he loves it too... dunno bout the local channels though

Ive had cable too, and would go back to antenna bfor id pay for cable again... DISH or DirecTV are the way to go

I hate charter too! I recently went back to DirecTv and love it.
I wish you could still get the local channels in all the time zones.

I have Charter and the only reason I continue to put up with them is they are the only high speed internet (which was out again today) I can get at my house that is reasonably priced. Direct TV is head and sholders a better company to deal with.
CHARTER SUCKS!

I switched to Directv. When I was at the Charter office returning my cable boxes there was a guy inline complaining about a service no call no show. I told him that Charter pulled 4 no calls/no shows on me and I was fed up and went to Dtv. Me and the other customer guy had a loud conversation on the poor service Charter provided while several other customers listened on. It sure felt good returnig those boxes!!
