long story short i m trying to jb weld an aluminum oil pan has anyone done this? if so how did it last? as long as i can get by with a few mont. i will be ok i am going to trad the car for a new one. i have seen this done on gas tanks and it works so any feedback will help. thanks and also i will post how it did if anyone is intrested

How big it the crack?

It will last for a few weeks then leak & you will need to do it again. The tempeture fluxuation will cause it to loose it's bond.

clean it real well with acatone, especially in the crack & try it. Nothing to loose right?

or spool gunned?

We did this one day down at CMP when a rumble strip got the best of the oilpan in the 510. cleaned it really well...layer of jb weld, soda can jb welded on top of that and all sealed up. Our buddy in Spec Miata looked at me like I was a moron when I asked if anyone had JB weld and a beer can. Ran the rest of the weekend and another 2 day event and was still holding up fine at last check. Going to tig it up when the motor gets pulled for a refresh.

It should work. I used JB on the transfercase after the oil pump wore a hole in it. Its very common to do this and seems to have great success.

I think you'd be fine with what you have. And yes, do clean it really, really well before applying the JB

Also, if you're wanting this to last for a while...there are much better products out there for this than JB weld. 3m and belzona make some of the best. If you have a friend with a body shop they can probably hook you up.

jbs on and took it for a ten mile test so i will just have to see. if its someone tigs or spool gunned it would the pan have to be off the car? thats why i jb'd so i did not have to pull the pan . and your right jeff b an oil change and a little jb vs. $215 oil pan and how ever much the gasket is lol
