If the engine has compression and spark and is getting fuel then what could cause it not to crank?

FI or carb? is it backfiring? did you check fire at the coil or plugs? did it run before and just stop or what?

It may be getting spark, but is it getting it at anywhere near the right time? (Timing)

I have the same problem. 89 jeep 4.2L carb, getting spark from coil to the distributor but thats as far as it goes. I put a new dist. on it and haven't gotten to mess with it since. The timing is good I checked that before I changed the dist. Maybe one day I can get it figured out. If not, what the hell its a jeep, aint that what there good for? Something to work on.
