ive got a bone stock cherokee with about a thousand to spend. id like to fit a 31 under it for now. what is the best route to take? i need to replace the rear springs, no AALs. theyre saggin badly. i was eyeing the 3.5 rubi express kit, but the shocks kinda throw me a little too close to budget. are theyre shocks ya'll use from local parts stores that will work? if so, part numbers would be great!!

its a daily driver, and looks pretty decent, so id prefer not to butcher the crap out of it like i did my buggy lol. ive got a beater, now i want something that doesnt live on a trailer.

btw, what tire size is closest to a 31 1050 15 for a 16 inch wheel? 265 70 16 or 265 75 16??

thanks

My DD is a 99 XJ on 31's. You'll be close with the 3.5 RE stuff, the tires might rub the fender flares a little, especially if its the newer XJs...the older ones had more fender clearance.
I have offset wheels, and have had a few combinations of lift, all with a little too much fender flare rubbing. Started with just 3.5" coils, added a 1" spacer on top, which was better, but I wanted swapped these coils on my ECORS XJ. Now running factory Up-Country coil on 2" spacers, havent wheeled this setup yet.
The rear has been constant, Rusty's 3.5" leafs. I've had a tire pull off the flare @URE, but I can't remember if that was before/after I extended the rear bumpstops.

sounds like you want exactly what I did for my Jeep Cherokee.

Here was my complete run down

RE 3.5" w/AAL

Four Rustys Offroad Shocks designed for four inches of lift

that right there is only $535 not including shipping

I know you said no to AAL but it will save you loads of money. Just go to a pull apart and snag some less worn stock rears. Or I bet people on here have some laying around. I have beat on my AAL for about 5 months now. They are completely broken in and they perform great. Yeah I would be happy having a brand new spring pack from RE but that can come further on down the road. If they sag over time i would buy a new pack or add a small lift shackle.

If you round it off that wil leave you around $400 to get a Nice set of tires man.

Here is my build thread if you want to see what the process is like.

Give me a shout when it comes to install. I venture winston salem weekly and love wrenching

if you want cheap you can get a 4.5 inch lift from rough country and its pretty reasonable. i did it on my 88 xj and cleared 33's fine with no scrub

shock and complete lift was under 800 bucks

Call brandon at rides.... he can getting what u want within budget!!

Brandon at "Rides" in Conover NC knowes his stuff when it comes to lifts and such, not to mention he will work with your budget. The phone # to Rides is (828)-465-3800, give him acall.

I think its a great choice goin with the rubicon express kit. they ride really good off road but the also stay smooth on the street. Oleblue's whole set up seems pretty cost effeciant and ive been thinkin bout doing the exact same thing.

i really recomend it. hell i dont mind if yo want to check it out one day this week. plus if you are like me you will probably only be going to ure. i have done every trail and never bottom out. 3.5" is good and you dont need a slip yoke eliminator which would cost you almost anouth $500

Funny u should mention.URE is the only trail ive gone to. I have a 2 inch body lift on my xj and i could get through most of the difficult rated trails.(Just not daniel)But would i still need extended brake lines and a rear cv driveshaft?

How cheap do you want to be? Buy RE front springs, get a dakota or s-10 rear leaf pack, and yj brake lines. Build a bastard pack out back with said lift pack and install front coils. Install yj brake lines, flex it out and measure for shocks. Go to advanced or O' Reileys and look in their shock book for the measurements you took that will best fit. :)

easy easy, put money on it that he meant a budget boost. just replaced some key words. but if you are going to lift it mine aswell lift it 3.5" and not have to do a SYE
Yea. srry. thats what i meant. Ive read that when you lift it 3 or 4 inches or something like that you would need a rear cv driveshaft but i aint certain.

I think it depends on the jeep. if you get driveline vibes, then you could work on the SYE. on the otherhand, you might not have any vibes.

I don't know how much they are these days, but my SYE was only $200 shipped. then I got an XJ CV front shaft ($50) and had it resized ($70) to use in the rear. and replaced all the u-joints, of course.

I have a YJ, and had a t case drop in there, which I took out when I got the SYE and CV driveshaft
XJ's are quite a bit different from a YJ though

the BDS kit is right at 1000, which is I guess about the same as RE. I guess it just depends on how cheap you want to do all of this, but it is possible within your budget.
