I'm thinking of getting one for a cheap cost effective beach buggy. It's basically going to be for short/day trips to Fort Fisher and will be used on the beach. I've got a couple of questions about what to look for. I would like to keep it under $3000.
1- What year ranges are the best quality/buy?
2- What motor to look for?
3- Trannys? auto any good on these?

It may one day get a mild lift and tires but would like to start running it as is.
Thanks

91 and up for the Ho and better cooling system...All autos will be 4speed AW4's. one of the best trannys made so it should be good if taken care of. Mostly try for 91 ^ unless its a really good deal.

I have had 1 91 Cherokee and a 97 Grand Cherokee. I still have the 97 it has a 4inch lift and 32x11.50x15 4.0 inline six auto trans.I had to start driving it as a dd i have put 28,000 miles on it in 6 months. That is driving to work and back and wheeling on the weekends when i have time. I have not had a issue with it at all. Hope this help u out.
