Jeep Ecodiesel Being Discontinued

I found a sweet rubicon gladiator in GA that caught my eye. I’m hoping to upgrade my ride in a couple of months and I considered a gladiator. This particular one has the ecodiesel. What’s everyone’s opinion on buying one with it being discontinued? Common sense says parts will become scarce in time and resale could be difficult. I wonder if there were enough sold in the Rams to keep parts available for a while. I can’t even find a delete kit for an ecodiesel, but I’m sure they’re out there. I’ve heard some good and bad reviews. Some say they’re awesome while healthy, but as all diesels the emissions kill them. Def, dpf filter, and regen’s aren’t something I want to deal with. Tore all that crap off of my previous dodge 6.7. I wonder if tunes will be around as well? Doesn’t sound like a smart buy, and I’ve pretty much talked myself out of one, I was just curious as to what you guys thought about them. Most of yall are pretty sharp and I learn quite a bit from here. School me up.

I have a 2015 ram ecodiesel and I love it. It has 324000 miles currently and the only thing I've had to change is the water pump at 300000 and the turbo cooler hose at 200000. Tunerdepot.com out of Canada is who my friend used last year, I used Green diesel engineering but I think the EPA scared them off.

Finding delete kits / tunes for any diesel that mess with emissions is very hard to find now.

EPA has cracked down on quite a few shops. Hell Rudy's just agreed to a $10M dollar fine, most shops are scared to sell anything emissions related now days.

Yea, I might hate the unelected EPA more than the unelected ATF. Just f’n things up for everybody.

6 months ago I was ready to pull the trigger on a JLU with the Ecodiesel and low miles until the dealer let it go to auction before I could get there. Ended up w/ a new one w/ the 3.6.

As nice as the new ones are, there are times I really wish I could've gotten the diesel. Maybe I'd be singing a different tune if I lived with one, but just test driving and reading up on them, I think they are a great powertrain. I'm not aware of typical mileage life expectancy, and if it's much better or worse than the 3.6. They were in production for 4 years across the JLU and JT, and longer in the Grand Cherokee and Ram, so plenty of them out there.

On the JL's the diesels come with the heavier duty front axle and iron knuckles, etc - not sure about differences on the JT's.

When was is the last year of the ecodiesel? They will be required to produce parts 10 years past that date.

Ecodiesel has been in Rams and Grand Cherokees since 2014. There's a good supply of parts. My 2016 Ram 1500 was an Ecodiesel and I loved it. Had it not gotten totaled, I planned to drive it til the wheels fell off. It had 200k miles and ran like new, still all stock emissions in place. This week I've been driving my mom's 2016 Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel, and its even better than the truck because its 1000lbs lighter and way quicker. Averaging 24mpg in stop and go Charlotte traffic with me driving! The 2nd gen (2019+ in the trucks) is an even better motor, smoother, quieter, more refined, more power, and better fuel economy. Basically the same motor is the only option in the JL's. My neighbor has one and they absolutely loves it. @Chris_M raved about his when he came down and bought a zero turn from me.

Do it and don't look back.

Six figures for a gladiator is out of my budget. My wife is way too high maintenance and expensive for me to afford anything that cool.

lol I agree
I specifically got the 2.0 JLU so that one day when the aftermarket is liquid enough I’ll swap one into it so it’s native 😂
