My girlfriends a/c compressor in her 2000 jeep cherokee 4x4, 4.0 just went south. Since a new a/c compressor is a little out of her budget right now and the winter months are coming closer and closer, is it possible to run a serpentine belt from the same year cherokee but without a/c? Im not sure but it looks like there is an alt bracket in the way. Also, can anybody post up some diagrams of the serpentine belt without a/c please? thanks

If the A/C compressor will free spin, I would leave it in. That will save you from having to buy a different length belt. Also, If you remove the compressor, you may have to add another pulley to get the belt to go the right way.

thanks for the info, I was hoping I could leave the compressor on and just re-route the belt. I have seen a couple of diagrams without ac but there seems to be a clearance problem between the belt and the bracket for the alt.

if anyone has a diagram of the serpentine belt for a 200 jeep cherokee 4.0 without a/c. feel free to post it up. thanks

Yes you can. Did this for My sister. Just bought a belt for a non AC 4.0 and put it on. Here's wasn't spinning freely, so we had to. She never used the AC, so it didn't matter anywhooo.

My girlfriends a/c compressor does not spin freely either. I went to the jeep dealership and the service manager printed out a picture of the belt pattern. He told me I would have to take the compressor off and put an idler pulley in its place. wtf??? how do you re-route the belt by bypassing the compressor?
