crazy question, but will a jeep t-18 bolt up to a dana 300 t-case.

Not directly. You will need an adapter. mamy have done it, good combo. The Jeep dana 300 didn't bolt directly to any tranny, they all have adapters.

I thought that the elusive 1980 scout dana 300 would bolt up since it has the texas pattern?

It does but #1 they are super hard to find (although I know a guy with 3 of them) #2 the people that sell them charge as much as an adapter would. plus if you break it then you have to find yet another texas bolt pattern 300.

If you do get your hands on a Scout D300, make sure you get the bull gear with it.

FYI, the auto and manaul bull gears are different on the IH cases. That goes for the D20 and D300.

You probably know this, but the teralow kit is available for the D20 taking it from 2:1 to 3.15:1. The kit is pricey though ($600-$700). Advantage is the texas pattern D20 is readily available and cheap if you happen to destroy the case.

IH D300s are definitely rare, and you'll likely have to pay shipping to get one. Going price is ~$400.
