Jeep XJ80

I don't have a full build thread here for the recent progress made to the jeep but here are a few specs and pics from the latest installment of cash sucking upgrades.
1999 Jeep XJ
4.0
AW4
D300 twin sticked with cable shifters
1991 Toyota FJ80 axles
3 Link front/leafs in rear
36" Iroks (hoping to go to 39.5's in the future)
aprox 6.5" or so of lift
welded rear, lockrite in front
WB stretch to 108"
full "hybrid" cage
Its really nothing special, but I've had alot of people asking me about it so I figured this would clear up some of the questions.
The full build thread from stock to now can be found here:

Here are a few shots of how it sits now.

FJeep80? Looks good.

Jeep XJ80

Needs more triangulation!

That thing looks great!

More trimming for the 39"s? Longer bump stops? How are you going to make it work?

There isn't much more trimming that can be done. The rear wheel openings are now lined in tube and the front would have to be inner fender trimming which isn't going to happen. I would just add some bump stops. I may look into running a 38" TSL instead, but I've really been happy with the iroks...other than last weekend in the rain...they sucked then but that was mostly due to the higher air pressure I was running since I havn't built the beadlocks yet.

I'm going to be running these beadlock rings as soon as I get around to welding them up.

how did you do the back windows. i have tube doors on my xj for the summer and its a hassle to put the real ones back on i was thinking of using snaps or velcrow with vynal to seal up my jeep when it rains. not perfectly water tight but just something so i can drive it without throwin the doors on. how does it do nd any advice on doing it

I had the rear 3 windows made by Hano's mother down in Florida. I made cardboard templates and she made them out of sunbrella black material and what I belive is 30mil. clear vinal. They work great and only leak if you hit the edge hard with a hose. There are lots of marine vinal enclosure companies around that could help you out...not cheap though.

Cool looking rig those yota axles should do you well and 2 thumbs:Rockon: up for thinking out side the box and trying something new:driver::popcorn: and im wanting to see this thing out on the trails

Its not the first time an XJ or MJ has had FJ80's put under it. I've heard of alot of people overseas using them since they are as readily available over there as D60's are over here. I actually found a picture of an MJ somewhere in Ireland I think that had swapped in the same axles but when I tried to contact him to ask some questions I never got a response.

I like the wider stance without going to full widths, and the longer wheelbase is going to be nice for some situations.

Very cool.

Would you do it all again? I need to justify convincing a buddy of mine to go the same route after following your build.

I'd do it again. It took me a long time because of lack of funds/time but I think it was worth it. Sure, throwing in a D44/9" would be easier but then it would be just like everyone elses jeep. The reason for going this route, was if i ever trash or tweak the body too much, i'll use the engine, tranny, D300, and axles to build a buggy.

Plus I'd wager that your front is much stronger than a D44. esp with alloys.

Infact I have found one I am thinking about swapping out my d44 for a fj80 front.

You drive like a little old lady. You'll never tweak the body enough to build a buggy.

Looks good! You have anymore pics of the cage (inside). I like the roof sliders.
