So, my Jeep has been sitting on and off for the better part of 3 years.

I would run it every few months when I visited my parents.

Next month I'm going to be putting it back on the road as my primary vehice.

What are the first things I'm going to need to check/replace/address? (Other than the radio!)

*Jeep's a 1989 YJ 4-cylinder

Thanks!

I would start with a basic tune-up, cap, rotor, plugs & plug wires, air & oil filter <--oil change. Then I would go through and visit all grease fittings with a grease gun, check all other fluids, and replace as necessary. If you haven't changed the diff fluids, now would be a great time. At least this gives you a starting point for servicing your YJ.
Later, T.J.

check fuel filter and cypher and fill with new gas. Rest should be fine for initial startup. Need to run it a tad to get all the grime to the bottom and then do an oil change. Check radiator fluid before getting hot and make sure the thermostat opens up. Kick tires for cracks and then run the biatch!!!

Make sure your tires aren't dryrotted, and then just drive it and see what doesn't work. Obviously, when you crank it, you should make sure engine/brakes/steering all work, but none of it is magic, so if it works in the driveway, it works on the road.

thanks folks

i appreciate the advice

i have to get it in running condition to make it 800 miles by the end of the week, so i guess i'm overthinking this

a lot of it seems elementary, i guess i was worried about things specific to jeeps/wranglers

thanks again ya'll!
