Myself, 35xj, and some of our buddies made our way to Harlan Ky last weekend for some good wheeling. We figured Tellico would be a parking lot that weekend and we needed some seat time after a few mods to our junk.
Anyway, we hit basically every trail up there, some twice. The waterfall on Railbed claimed one of my 30 spline Dutchman rear shafts and cracked my carrier. (Housing is in the machine shop now getting bored for new 35 spliners ) Shoope1 was riding bitch with me when it let go. About a 4000 RPM vertical launch and landing was all the shaft could take.
We also ran Mason Jar, which is very comparable to Schoolbus at Tellico before it became so eroded. Great entrance area with some BIG rocks blocking the way to some steep, loose, off camber hill climbs.
Next we hit the Upper Rock Garden. This trail is as close to an event type course as you will see. Some very technical descents and turns with a very tight entrance to the final 1/3 of it.
Anyway, here's some pics from the Upper Rock Garden...
35xj in the entrance to the nasty section of the garden.
Squeezing through the gate
My junk going where buggies are the rule. My spotter asked me to "bump it" a little, shift light came on (5500 RPM), then metal began to mash.
Rear shot coming through the gate
Finally, the end result of my full width rig in the squeeze. My doors would no longer open and wrecked both rear "fender" skins. I believe Shoope1's left hand was permantly affixed onto the "Oh sh*t bar" after my Railbed attempt.
Great place to wheel and the trails are very challenging. I know of 2 obstacles that have not been climbed yet...
Now for tech.
The 30 spline rears are done. My housing is being bored as we speak. Dutchman is making my new 35 splined shafts and giving me a lifetime warranty on them. No other manufacturer offered me any warranty (did not contact Superior).
