Well i just bought a 90 xj, 4.0 guy said he ran it out of gas, and when he started it it would idle rough and shut off. I think i have that problem solved(fuel filter clogged slam up) so now i caint even get a click out of the ignition when i turn the key, i have a good bat in it, starters new,Everything powers up on the inside. Gimme some stuff to check.

there is a safety shut off realy on the pass finder under the hood it will make it seem like a dead batt

yea it worked on a 92 that did the aeme thing idk witch one it it i lost my cover for my 90 but its there

if it's an auto, there is a common issue with the neutral safety Switch (NSS). try placing thwe shifter in N and starting. wiggle shifter around in N or P while holding the key over and it should start cranking if thats your problem.

If it is, you can take the switch apart and clean the contacts, slap in siome dilectric grease, reassemble & reinstall.

Well it wasint the NSS, Damn ground cable bout to break off the block. Now i can get it to start but it wont stay running, Its not gettin enough fuel, Gonna drop the tank, look at the pick up screen.
I put about a gallon in the tank to see if it was the fuel gauge misread. Will let yaw know if this helps. any oyher info would help. THANKS!!!!

If no luck there, try idle air control (IAC), and possibly fuel pressure regulator.

well i found it. A hose on the fuel pump inside the tank came off. put a new hose on fired right up, idled perfect. thanks for all the info!!!
