Took the seats out, front clip out, pulled the engine, Put it on the stand, took the pan off, Looks like my cam is crap, It has 1 shiney piston PO told me the engine had a fresh rebuild, It has a new head aswell, The inspection has 89 on it. My Question, Should I just slap a new cam in it and go?

Ive bought all new Gaskets intake/exhaust, OP, TCC, WP, thermostat, VC, Rear main seal, all the gaskets but the head. New 1 Barrel Carter, Fuel pump, Hoses, 1 Can of HEMI Orange.
Should I rebuild, I'll only be driveing it to the beer store, and around on local farm trails. What do y'all think. New cam and go, or rebuild?

Personally, if I'm gonna go through the trouble of pulling an engine out with unknown condition, I would go ahead and rebuild it. That way I know I'm not gonna have to pull it back out. Everything clean and painted too.

Sweet deal, As far as a rebuild I would because I hate breaking down on the way to the beer store and in the trails.

I pulled the caps. there was some scaring on the inserts. Just pulled the head off. down inside the block where the lifters are theres a lot of gunk. How do you clean all that stuff out. Also when i fliped the block over with the oil drained out and head still on. Oil came out of the intake ports. Valve Seals Maybe? Sorry, internal engine is sorta new to me, but i gotta learn, so this is a good one to start on.

Well im gonna give the block and the lifter valley a good cleaning today. I think ill leave the pistons alone they dony have any play and it had great compression before dissassembly. I will be replaceing the cam, lifters, and timeing chain set, as well as a new oil pump. I,ve got a long ways to go before this rig sees the beer store. Any thoughts on a diffrent cam? Maybe help the ole i6 grab a little more power/torque?

In my CJ 258, I used a Mopar Performance stage II cam/lifter set. I have no idea on the specs, I could probaly dig up the p/n later. I really liked the power it had. I also used a MP high volume oil pump, oil pressure looked great.
