Just curious, how many members of the BDB run 40" or bigger tires, thought of this cause of all the drama about all those guys over the weekend/ plus the extreme rig thread, wondering what the BDB thinks the main diffrence's are between a built rig and a extreme rig (just using extreme cause that is what the thread used) Not trying to start anything, just curious of what people think.

I believe that currently there are 8 or so rigs with 40"+ tires in the club... I feel that "extreme" is a matter of perception for something that is beyond what you would feel comfortable doing...

Other than that, I have no clue what people mean by extreme...

Also, I don't feel that something has to have big tires to be considered "built"... but when talking about stronger drivetrain/axle options, you tend to end up with bigger meats...

Perception!

Extreme or built, eye of the beholder.

I have had to tuck tail several times wheeling with smaller tire rigs. I run 44's and been put to shame by 35's, 36's and so on.

:driver:rigs tires are not what makes it extreme. we recently rode wide adam woodlee from wide open design his rig was much smaller, much more expensive and more extreme and he was only running 39 krawlers. it goes better on 39's than mine does on 47's
that being said 2 buggys have 49's one has 47's one has 46's three have 44's. and a new one thats gonna have 54 boggers.

Every dog has it's day.
On any given obstacle, sometimes the big ole' tires are whats up....sometimes they aint.

It's all cool though.

Whats extreme? Just getting a truck dirty is extreme to prolly 98% of the nation..lol

I think it depends on what you are driving as to what "BUILT" is. In the sammi world built is yota's or 44's on 35-37's. On most other vehicles that isnt much over stock.

thats very true, an extreme zuki is about the same as a stock grand cherokee with a tow package.

where zuki's start the extreme end of the catagory, is still stock for GCs. Ive seen a zuki on rockwells before....but i think that more rediculous than extreme.

Now thats a zukzilla!

Def in the eye of the beholder . . . for instance, I am around these kinda rigs all the time, and also am well known as a Mud Racing/Grudge Pull/Sled Pull/Rock Race/Hammer Down/Wide Open/Trucks Gone Wild/all around vulgar displays of horsepower kinda guy.

Thus to me Monster Trucks aren't even extreme, they are too clumsy to properly maneuver and play around with - mega trucks on the other hand rock my socks in a very non gay kinda way

If it were me a Rig that had Drag Slicks, Some rice and kanes, some true Monster truck 66's, something much stronger than plane jane than 5 ton rockwell axles, front and rear steer, at least 1500 horsepower, but could still maneuver and win in most of the Trucks Gone wild events would be extreme - not that buggies or Mud Racers or sled pullers with moderately big mid 40 to 50's tires and big motors arn't sick - but def not to the max extreme . . .

So definitely a point of view type question that everyone will have a different opinion of, I'm just the one that gets made fun of for liking the stupid hammer down, go retarded big or go home, ask questions later type wheelin :smokin:

***disclaimer: there is a proper time for the stupid wide open hammer down type stuff and that is in a contained, sanctioned competition style event that has full safety precautions set in place - not in every day 4wheelin***

Not me. Just some 37" tires on my junk.

Im not a member of the bdb and neither are any of my friends. and there is more of us running 40's and bigger than them. unless 39.5's dont count. I have 2 and in the process of building a 3rd. whats the big deal. I also wheel a jeep on 33's

LOL, I'll put my mildly built Sami up against your stock GC any day.

Tires don't mean shit if you can't drive. Give me a set of 37 red label krawlers, light rig and good luck following me through the rocks with your 44's

Tires are very important but this isn't 1990 when the biggest tire wins. Now you have weight distribution, suspension geometry, gearing, etc. When I was younger and didn't know better I would roll my eyes at smaller rigs. Now I wait for them to beat me to the top. It's a different game now. However, there are those horsepwer throttle jockeys :shaking:

drkelly impressed me at the farm more than anyone, and I rode up bees nest Kevin. A couple of years ago it was marvelousone in his xj. It was x-ttreme and on 33's I believe.

38" TSL's on my rig.

I also agree with most of the other posts in this thread. Extreme or built is in the eye of the beholder.

I personally wouldn't soley look at the vehicle to determine extreme / not extreme. I think it has a lot to do with driver. What I mean is; some folks could be driving a Geo Metro thru the woods and be considered "extreme" and even if I bought the 52X Racer that is for sale on here, I still would not be considered "extreme" because I drive like a "Grandpaw".
