I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500, 360z motor that has a head gasket leak.

I stopped into day, at the local Parts store to pick up my Head gasket rebuild kit.

and for shits and grins got to looking at the BARS and Other Chemical crack and leak stoppers.

Does any one have experience with this stuff, with regards to Blown Head Gaskets?

or is this crap the temp fix till you can get your ass to the SHOP in the next 24 hours?

any thoughts? thank you.

i have never used it in a dd. i used it in my forklift and it seems to be working.
i would never use it in a customers car, but i have seen it used with pretty good results.

i would rather fix it properly than try to band-aid it. if you try to band-aid it it will most likely fail at the time you need it most.

i restored a 78 Bronco for a friend earlier this year, he picked it up cheap being told it just needed a carb. after getting a carb and trying to fire it up i noticed it was pushing water/gas out the back of the block between the head and block. i told him it needed a head gasket and id replace it for him, he didnt listen and tried putting the Bars stuff in and it didnt fix it, tried some more expensive stuff and that didnt work either. long story short i had to replace the head gasket AND head because it was cracked also, it also had a push rod bent so bad it came out of the guide and was laying in the valley. i have heard many stories of the stuff working and lasting forever though. personally i think the best thing to do is fix it right the first time.
ps sorry for rambling on....

I used some on my sons Civic and it quit pushing oil into the cooling system...but didnt bypass the heater core and now its all clogged up....Fix 1 thing, trash another

The 406 in my drag truck had a leaking head gasket 1/2 though the season. Didn't have to time to fix the correct way so bought the $3.something bottle of bars leak. Poured it in, let idle for 20 min. Then changed the water out. Ain't leaked in 6 months of racing.
