I've been thinking lately about selling the Trooper or using it as a down payment on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'm not wanting one of the brand new ones i'd be happy with a ZJ. I don't want one of the V8 ones either i'm just wanting one with the 4.0 I6. My Trooper's stock with the 3.2 V6, 5-Spd transmission and it's 4X4. It's my daily driver so if I got a Jeep it'd just replace my Trooper as my daily driver. I'm having a really hard time finding anything aftermarket for it and when i do it's outrageous expensive. Which is the more capable rig in stock form? Would I be going up or going down if i switched from the Trooper to a ZJ? Thanks for the help guys!

well if you like the 5spd, 93 was the only year they offered it as an option in the ZJ, and it is rare.... It all really depends on what you want, as there are guys that wheel both from stock to extreme....

there are alot more parts for XJ's and alot cheaper than on a ZJ..

just throwing it out there

just noticed..i think you have to be from hickory to reply to this haha

You can pick up WJs really cheap these days.. with the I-6 and select trac system.. they are a proven package, and aftermarket is pretty strong, you can gain 2" for 200 bucks or less... Factory Trangulaed rear, full coils all around, solid axles all around... couple sizes above stock tires will still net you 18-22mpg, and working on them is simple, plenty of room to get around....

Honestly, I couldn't see wheeling a Grand, at all. I'd be worried about scratching it, or causing even worse body damage. They are much too nice to wheel IMO. If I were you I'd look for a regular old XJ. The XJ is also quite a bit easier to find in 5spd, as they had them for the biggest part of production.

I wheeled a WJ for quite a while... It was great.. and since you can pickup a decent one for anywhere between 4-8 grand... whats the difference? He wants a DD so get something that rides nice too.. I'm far from against an XJ but if i were to do it, that would be my choice.

as far as zj goes, why against the v8? i had 2 and also had an i6 zj and the v8's got the same mpg as the i6 with much more power, one of the v8's had 210k miles on it and it ran great with no knocking or even valve ticking, i'd personally get the v8

I am on my 5th Jeep now. I actually have a 96 Grand Cherokee for sale for $3500. I use it as my DD but i also have a 2000 TJ on 35's. Its an I6 and probably gets around 15 mpg around the city where as my 5.7 L V8 Full time 4x4 gets around the same gas mileage. They way i look at it, gas is only going to get higher so why not drive something you love until it is all gone. A Veggie Oil engine will be my next endevour. But with the Troopers they have a high roll over rate due to their high ceilings and narrow wheel base. Parts are cheaper for the Jeeps, they are easier to work on, and they are made to wheel. So go with the Jeep.. heck, buy mine!

bet andrew ask you for pictures of your jeep ;)
