know anything about these

bought an acer netbook a few years ago. kept it about a month. its great for sitting in class and taking notes. any programs or apps that require memory to run....and it sucks.

They're getting better. The initial ones were kinda buggy and the hardware wasn't all that great. They are great for couch surfing. I also use mine in the shop. It's been helping me change a heater core in a VW Cabrio. :)

I would not buy the one you listed. 7" is too small. Get a 10", you'll be much happier. Also, I wouldn't buy an off-brand. Go with a name brand. Acer's seem to be cheap and hold up well. Intel Atom processor preferably. Dell makes a decent one. Be sure to look for a SSD (solid state disk). That will help with battery power and speed.

Yeah, I couldn't find anywhere on that first page where it said who made the thing.

The Acers and Dells are pretty good, but are pared down. Small hard drives, little ram, no optical drive, etc. But they're inexpensive.

If you touch type, you should try one out first to see whether or not you can actually type on the thing. 12" is usually okay, but 9" and 10" models will have pretty small keyboards.

My daughter had one and ended up selling it to a friend and just got her a regular lap top. She said the size and limits to what she could do on it were a pain. But for easy srufing the net etc. they are not bad at all.

Netbooks are intended to sell to an email/internet browsing /low function audience that wants super light and small. Not intended for apps such as Excel, Word etc.

In the corp world a lot of people have a netbook for travel and a regular lap top for normal activities.

Personally, I don't find the weight to be that much of an issue so I just have a lap top. But I am not known to be a techy gadget person, just happen to work in that biz.

Did you guys look at the details/specs on the one posted?
It is a generic Chinese knockoff very cheapo model. Very limited RAM, all "integrated" video/processor. Not sure what the OS is but very unlikely to be Windows.
Read the reviews, they are pretty funny - and clear it is a piece of junk. Hence it costs less than a Nintendo DS.

I agree Netbooks can be pretty cool, but unless it costs you at least $250-300 don't expect much.
Oh and yeah the keyboards on 7" models are TINY, not to mention that when browsing webpages you will always be scrolling up and down.

the macbook I'm on now is great! 13" screen, thin, does anything any other laptop plus not the all the virus problems we had with our Dell. Navigating anything apple takes some getting used to, but I'm sold now! Worth every penny IMO

Microsoft sells a Windows product geared for netbooks...dirt cheap relatively speaking, called Starter. Very limited functions/very specific specs requried to qualify. Majority of netbooks come with that.

Yeah, but you paid 3x as much for it. Macs are luxury computers for people with a bunch of money to spend.

If you want a cheap, reliable machine that your grandma can't fill full of malware, get a $350 Dell or HP and dual-boot Ubuntu on it.

Being you can't get a Macbook for 3x less, I'd say I paid what anyone else would. I didn't have to buy something either then go do something else to it to get it to work well. It came that way. I'm not rich either, I'd just rather spend my money once & not have to keep an eye on things.
