Well since no one else wants to mention it I guess I will start. I watched most of the race on the pirate4x4 web cam. It was pretty intense and looked like a hell of alot of fun. I heard that Will had a small run in with Shannon Campbell. Tell me if I have the story wrong, but apperently Will had rolled on his side on one of the obstacles and Shannon ended up passing over him while he was still on his side in the buggy. I beleive that the only damage was a broken shrader valve but apparently that put him out of the race. Has anyone else heard anymore about this? Just wondering what Will thought about all of this? Either way awsome job will looks like there were some great pics of you.
 
I hate to say it but I used to have some respect for Shannon campbell, but it all has been lost now. Unless there was something I didn't see in the video, that looks like it was pretty dangerous if Will was trying to get out of his buggy when Shannon was running into it.

I know if it was my buggy when we got back to camp someone would have caught a beat down for that. I don't care who he is.

I dont have a problem with the running over part, that is expected when you sign up. My issue is that Shannon was already DQ'd and should have not been on the course, he was merely a public user at that point.

Not unlike say a buddy of Will's driving a tank on the course and blocking all progress as a public user.

One problem (and it was discussed here for last years URE race) KOH promotion did not get authoritative permission from BLM, IOW they had no right to stop Shannon from doing as he pleases, next year they have vowed they will have that right.

All that said, if an east coast guy had done the same they would not be invited back. No way they bar Shannon because of the money and attention he brings, but I wowuld have liked to at least see a public condemnation of his actions.
 
I agree with you also skyhik5. My main problem is that he was already dq'd and there was no reason at all to be putting anyone in danger like that. At that point he had nothing at all to win.

I wouldnt say it was much of a fair comparison though. Shannons buggy has IFS and was built to go fast (and it did till the tranny puked). Not to take anything away from the other driver. It was def. a nice line. I dont think anyone can say shannon cambell isnt a fawkin driver :huggy:
 
I don't want to turn this into a Pirate thread but if he could have just waited 30 sec. to let Will get out or have someone roll him back over it wouldn't have been a big deal. The fact that he was DQ'd makes it even worse.

I have no problem with a no holds bar off road race but saftey should be the top priority and I personally feel that SC just wasn't thinking. Did anyone even check to make sure hot fluids weren't coming out on Will or that he didn't have a rock wedged up against him. This is a totally unbiased opinion because I don't know Will and I surely don't know Shannon Campbell.

As bad as I dont want to agree. It showed that SC's rig was not built to crawl over rocks much. Thats why the second guy looked so good compared to SC. IFS compared to straight axle.
I was probably one of his biggest fans, but now I hate I spent so much time and energy pulling for him. Shannon showed his true colors and I cant pull for something like that. I have said enuff on here as well as PBB.

Guy in the second buggy was a crawling rig first then a racer. His wheel base was much shorter than mine or Shannons. If I'd been sitting at 100" instead of 108" i'd made that the first shot.

You can see in my second try that I grabbed the left rear cutting brake with barely enough rock there to hang on. I don't know how that thing stuck but I know I was thankful when it did. Thought I was headed over again.
 
I would have been pissed. If dude would have ran over my rig with me in it, he would've caught an ass whoopin'. I hope you at least told him what an asshole he was.

From the videos and hearing Will the other night he showed alot of class. Thats why I said on Pirate, people know who is the better racer:beer:
 
yeah Will, i didnt notice the cutting brake use at first. Glad you pointed that out. That was a slick pc. of driving. I even heard some of the crowd say that was cool driving.
Its the subtle things like that that show who the real drivers are...Good job man.
 
Are we going to have to build another chassis so Will can fit his head in it after all this? :flipoff2:
