Land Rover Freelander?

My wife wants to trade her van in and get something a little smaller and younger looking and found a 03 Land Rover Freelander on line and really wants it now. How are these holding up and if anyone has one or knows anything about some problems with them what to look for. I am a ASE mechanic so dont mind working on something but dont want to buy something that is a known pos.

ALso it has the 2.5 engine and is a auto trans with 4x4

Parts are not cheap for those things, most part companies don't support it aftermarket.
 
I work for a reputable car lot we deal with alot of highend vehicles and we avoid those thing like the plague they will nickel and dime you to death. If I'm not mistaking Land Rover does'nt make the Freelander any more because of problems they were having. If it is out of warranty stay away! My .02 worth.
 
I was thinking about geting it and getting one of the aftermarket warrantys on it that way all you have to pay is 100 and they cover the rest
 
IMO that's a bad idea, those companies go out of bussiness all the time and you are up the creek.

Alot of the ext warranty companies don't cover Land Rover products due to cost of parts.
 
Buddy of mine had one, the 75k service was going to cost $5000 just covering "regular maint" not including anything else that may have popped up......

It was traded for a Shelby Mustang
 
Yea, I'd stay away from anything that said Land Rover on it.
 
motors go out constantly, tons of them at the sales knocking, apparently rover can't fix the problem so most will need a new motor. they are dirt cheap at auctions for a reason
 
Freelanders are not the best vehicles as its been stated. Other than my jeep my dad and I have 3 LR's and after driving a freelander at the dealership one day I thought it was a total pos.
